Blue skies, big smiles, and adaptive turns all around! 🎿❄️☀️

We had a great day at Eaglecrest Ski Area last weekend for Learn to Adapt Day! We were able to demo adaptive skills equipment including giving folks the chance to hop into the bi-ski and hit the slopes!

A big thank you to Hecla Greens Creek for sponsoring our adaptive outdoor recreation program and supporting our mission to inspire independence in Southeast Alaska!

Stand-up outriggers are adaptive forearm crutches with small skis attached at the base. They give skiers an extra point of contact with the snow, helping them with balance and control. Skiers use them for three-tracking (one ski + two outriggers) or four-tracking (two skis + two outriggers), depending on their strength, balance, and mobility needs.

Each year on February 16, we honor Elizabeth Peratrovich and reflect on her powerful and lasting legacy. During a time when Alaska Native peoples faced severe discrimination, Peratrovich’s advocacy and commitment to equal opportunity and protection from discrimination for all helped inspire lawmakers to pass the first Anti-Discrimination Law in the United States, 14 years before Alaska achieved statehood.

Our office will be closed in observance of Elizabeth Peratrovich Day. Thank you for your understanding.
