At PBBHW, we’re big fans of Dr. Becky Kennedy’s () work. Her message to parents is clear, compassionate, and deeply grounded in attachment and nervous system science. She reminds us that parenting isn’t about perfection, but connection with your child.

Here are five of our favorite Dr. Becky quotes and what they really mean in practice 👇

1️⃣ “Good parents don’t get it right all the time. They repair when they get it wrong.”
Every parent loses patience sometimes. The most powerful thing you can do afterward is come back with empathy. Repair teaches your child that love can stretch and bend, but it doesn’t break. Saying, “I got frustrated, and I wish I hadn’t yelled,” models accountability and safety.

2️⃣ “Your child isn’t giving you a hard time. Your child is having a hard time.”
This shift in perspective changes everything. Instead of seeing defiance as disrespect, we start to see distress. When we respond to behavior with curiosity i.e. “What’s feeling too big for my child right now?” We teach regulation instead of shame.

3️⃣ “You can be kind and firm at the same time. That’s what true authority looks like.”
Boundaries aren’t mean; they’re loving. They give children structure and a sense of safety. A calm, confident “I won’t let you hit” communicates that you’re in charge and you care. That balance builds trust and emotional maturity.

4️⃣ “The most regulated nervous system in the room always wins.”
Our children learn emotional regulation through us, not from us. Before you guide your child’s feelings, pause to steady your own. A slow exhale, a grounding touch, a softer tone, for example. Remember your calm becomes their cue that everything is okay.

5️⃣ “You can’t show up as a grounded parent if you’re running on empty.”
Parenting is relational work, and it requires energy. Meeting your own needs for rest, quiet, laughter, or support is not selfish; it’s responsible. You can’t pour connection from an empty cup.

✨ Remember: You and your child are both good inside.
When you lead with repair, curiosity, and compassion, growth naturally follows.

It’s probably safe to say that no one enjoys feeling unpleasant or uncomfortable emotions. They can be overwhelming, all-consuming, and maybe even make us act in ways that we aren’t proud of.

Our goal in healing when it comes to emotions is to feel all emotions all the way through in a healthy way without reacting out of them. If we are afraid to feel certain emotions, then those emotions have control of us. If we can anticipate our next move when we start to feel an unpleasant emotion, we are the ones in the driver’s seat.

We can accept that unpleasant emotions are part of the human experience without liking them or wishing for them to continue. If we are so focused on hating unpleasant emotions, we may never learn to work through them or work with them. Emotions are one way our bodies are communicating to us!

What emotions have you worked through in your healing? ❤️‍🩹

“Why does even the smallest rejection feel like heartbreak?” 💔

If you live with ADHD, you may know this feeling well. It’s called rejection sensitivity and it’s more than just being “too sensitive.”

Rejection sensitivity (sometimes referred to as RSD) is:
👉 A nervous system response that makes criticism, disapproval, or even perceived rejection feel intensely painful.
👉 Not a character flaw, but part of how ADHD brains process emotional information.
👉 Something that can lead to overthinking, people-pleasing, withdrawing, or spiraling in shame.

The good news? Awareness is the first step toward breaking the cycle. 💡
With therapy skills (DBT, IFS, CBT), grounding strategies, and supportive relationships, rejection sensitivity doesn’t have to define you.

With so much misinformation online, it’s important to turn to reliable sources. ACOG has confirmed that Tylenol use during pregnancy does not cause autism. Please speak with your OB/GYN, pediatrician, or licensed mental health professional if you have questions. Know that your health decisions deserve accurate information and support.

ACOG reaffirms the safety and benefits of acetaminophen use during pregnancy.
More than two decades of research have found no causal link between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and autism, ADHD, or intellectual disability in children. Acetaminophen continues to be an important and safe option for managing pain and fever in pregnancy—conditions that can pose serious risks to pregnant patients and their fetuses if left untreated.
