Today we begin the sacred season of Lent. Marked with ashes, we are reminded of God’s boundless mercy. Within our Catholic Cemeteries, this truth is held with reverence every day as we honor life, commend our loved ones to God’s care, and await the promise of the resurrection. We pray that you find comfort and strength in your faith during this sacred time. 🙏

Pope St. John Paul II (Ash Wednesday, February 12, 1997):
"Ashes are a sign of man's transience and subjection to death. In this season, when we are preparing to relive liturgically the mystery of the Redeemer's death on the cross, we must more deeply feel and experience our own mortality. We are mortal beings yet our death does not mean destruction and annihilation. In it, God has inscribed the profound hope of the new creation. Thus the sinner who celebrates Ash Wednesday can and must cry: 'Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me (Psalm 51:10).'"

The Benefits of Pre-Planning Your Cemetery Arrangements:

🙏 Reduced Burden on Family: By planning ahead, you spare your family the burden of navigating complex decisions at a time of grief, allowing them to focus on healing and remembrance.

💰 Financial Benefits: A prepaid cemetery plan allows you to pay today’s prices for future needs, protecting you and your loved ones against rising costs and inflation.

📍 Ensuring Availability: Certain cemetery sections can fill up quickly, leaving families with limited options near their loved ones who have gone before them. Pre-planning secures your preferred burial location in advance to avoid limitations when the time comes.

✨ Personalization: Pre-planning gives you the opportunity to choose every detail—your burial plot, headstone, and other arrangements—ensuring they reflect your personal wishes, faith, and traditions.

🕊️ Emotional Peace of Mind: Knowing your arrangements are in place provides comfort, security, and reassurance, both for you and those you care about.

At Catholic Cemeteries of Chicago, our compassionate team of Advisors will guide you through the process of creating a personalized plan that honors your faith, reflects your wishes, and protects your family.

Peace of Mind, Tradition and Faith

The history of Catholic Cemeteries in the Archdiocese of Chicago began with the first Catholic cemetery; St. James, Sag Bridge established in 1837. We, the women and men of the Catholic Cemeteries, assist the Archbishop of Chicago in caring for the faithful departed by performing the most ancient corporal work of mercy – the burial of the dead. We pride ourselves in offering Peace of Mind, Tradition and Faith in the services we offer at our 45 cemeteries throughout Cook and Lake counties.
