Rainy day reading and a reflection to share.

THIS… this sutra is why everything I do for myself and offer to others is an integrated, holistic approach. There’s no magic pill, protocol, or one practice that will fix everything.

Why? Because our body is an expression of the Dvine working in us and through us. It’s a temple… sometimes blissful sometimes deeply challenged. The nature or our physical form is dynamic and ultimately temporal.

We are NOT our body.
We have a body.

Our life unfolds through this vehicle we we born with. You can’t just trade it in or lease another one.

It is often our body that calls us to the deeper, more profound work.

Accept every challenge as happening for you, not to you.

Meditation is not something you do.
It is a natural state of being you allow.

Most people approach meditation like another task to master- concentrate harder, clear the mind, achieve calm.

But true meditation isn’t concentration.
It isn’t visualization, or contemplation, or affirmations.
It isn’t even stress reduction (though that often happens).

Meditation is what remains when effort dissolves…
When the nervous system settles.
When the mind softens.
When awareness rests in itself.

Technique prepares the ground. Meditation happens.

In a world addicted to doing, meditation invites us back to being.
And from that state, clarity, resilience, and wise action arise naturally.

This Thursday I’m facilitating a 30 minute introduction to meditation w/ Q&A on the Sattva Meditation Technique, an ancient meditation practice rooted in Himalayan tradition, that’s probably unlike anything you’ve ever experienced.

Been thinking about love this weekend and lovin’ on those I love.

How well we love others has a lot to do with how well we love ourselves. The more we can cultivate and connect with the love that resides within us, the more we have to give. It naturally becomes an abundant outpouring that flows out into the world with ease.

Jamie & I have been practicing yoga together for 28 years. (He would tell you that he married his first yoga teacher. Lucky me! ☺️)

Nearly 7 years ago we took a giant leap and embarked on journey to India that deepened our practice in ways we could’ve never imagined.

In 2019, after nearly two months at the , I returned with a new awareness for the present moment and thus my life. It was so incredibly impactful that Jamie then embarked on the training himself in the fall of that same year.

Since then, we’ve been teaching, individually and together, what we’ve learned through the expansive practice of yoga and nearly three decades of experience.

This past November we attended the together, a joyous gathering that is a reunion of sorts for teachers in our lineage. It rekindled our fire to go deep and learn more from the ancient Himalayan yog vedantic traditions.

To those who’ve practiced with us and to those who may yet, there’s more to come in the way of new offerings.

Happy Winter Solstice! Today marks is the shortest day and the longest night.

It’s a time to take quietest pause, even if just for a moment, and acknowledge the sacred threshold where darkness completes its work and the light begins to return more fully.

Today invites rest, reflection, trust, and an opportunity to honor what has ended, tend the ember within, and listen for what wants to be born next in this season of light. 🙏🏽

From the stillness, the days grow brighter.✨💫✨

Once sitting with JT Garrett (a great Cherokee Medicine Man who profoundly impacted my life) and talking about chant, language, and prayer, he told me, the only prayer you ever need and the greatest words you can every speak is to simply say, “Thank you.”

And so it is…
Thank you is my prayer, my mantra, the first words I say to God when I open my eyes in the morning.

I’m so grateful for this man, my best friend and husband of 27 years, our children, our family (by blood and by choice), and all the people, places, and things that make our life beautiful.

May the grace of Thanksgiving dwell in your heart everyday.🙏🏽❤️

The most valuable currency that you can give or receive is your attention.

How do you spend it? Where does your attention go in moments of stillness, busyness, or boredom?

You spend this life in your body and with a mind that darts around aimlessly,

But you are not your body.
You are not your mind.

You have a body.
You have a mind.
You are a soul.

Learn to master your body and your mind.

It starts by mastering your attention. Don’t consume that which you would not want to be. Feed only what you would like to grow.

Master your attention.

Our Story

Mind Body Aloha was inspired by our sincere passion for sharing an integrative, holistic approach to wellness, one that infuses our in-depth experience with the science of yoga and meditation as well as practices and wisdom from the Native American, Hawaiian and Himalayan traditions.

We founded Mind Body Aloha (formerly Ola Lokahi, LLC) through support and collaborations with native elders, teachers and healers spanning the globe. Our love for creating transformational journeys was seeded in 2004 when we held our first retreat in North Carolina for the military community of Fort Bragg which we were a part of at the time.
