Join us for our last session of Grounded Action this Friday with donations going to support a free Palestine!

Sustaining care and action over time is hard. Especially when the world feels heavy and the pressure to respond feels constant. Burnout often comes not from lack of care, but from trying to hold too much alone. This session centers building strength and steadiness so engagement can be supported, not forced. The movement practice will include standing and supported postures designed to build physical strength and emotional stamina. Options using the wall or chair will be offered so the practice remains accessible.

Following movement, there will be time to reflect, dream, and name next steps. Both personal and communal. The focus is on sustainability and staying connected to our values without urgency or exhaustion.

Join us Saturday mornings for our new offering, Heart + Heat with ❤️🕯️

Heart + Heat is a heart-connected flow that balances warmth, strength, and awareness. Classes emphasize intentional movement, longer holds in some postures, and a steady build of heat—inviting curiosity, playfulness, and compassion along the way. Music may include both instrumental and lyrical tracks, and props are encouraged to support a wide range of bodies and experiences.

Each class begins with a brief invitation into presence, followed by a gradual warm-up that links breath with movement. From there, we build a stable foundation and move into an exploratory flow—traveling from the floor, to mid-level, to standing, and back to the floor.
Stillness is woven throughout to re-center and receive. Class ends with 5-10 minutes of savasana, accompanied by a short guided meditation or body scan. This is an all-levels class with options to modify intensity. Expect moments of strength, balance, and sustained effort, balanced with rest and reflection.

Alison See is a 200-hour yoga instructor, certified doula, and certified prenatal yoga teacher. While this class is not a prenatal-specific offering, prenatal students are welcome and supported. The practice is designed for varying body types and abilities, with the understanding that some movements may feel more physically demanding and include transitions between the floor and standing.

Meet KBY instructor, Andy! (they/them)

“I believe that practicing presence, authenticity, and belonging both individually and collectively make equity, liberation and longevity possible for ourselves, all humans, and all living beings, including our planet.

Presence is not just about being here now. Rather, presence is the ability to witness this moment within the context of history and the awareness of potential futures. When we are awake to the realities that have framed where we are now, and what is needed of us to cultivate a nourishing future, we can see this moment more fully.

Authenticity is standing and acting in your truth whether or not it’s what’s expected or the norm. I believe we all have a sense of truth within us, that came with us when we took human form. I am doing my best to honor what makes me, me, and working with others to reconnect with their authentic selves, so our gifts come forward and we can support one another for the long haul.

Belonging, in its purest sense, is the remembrance that we all are connected to each other, this living planet, the cosmos. It is the embodiment of true acceptance of self, others, and the way things are. When we feel a sense of belonging, we know we are being seen for who we truly are, and loved unconditionally.

I continually lean on the wisdom of teachers, writers and wisdom leaders. With a wide range of trainings in facilitation through the lens of equity and restorative justice, trauma informed practices, coaching, and yoga certifications - I am ready to meet you in class.

In my free time, I like to forage and wander in nature, grow and prepare food, and organize with locals for a liberatory world. Currently my parter, pup and I are living in southwest Michigan.

You can find me teaching my class series, the Doshas, on Sunday evenings at Backyard Yogis. And you can join me in the warmer months for Yoga with Horses.

I can’t wait to meet you.”

THIS FRIDAY! Join us for Metal Flow with Alexia Walker of on Friday, March 20th at 7:30pm. 25% of Net Sales from this event will benefit Michigan Immigrant Rights Center

Alexia Walker leads a strong immersive movement experience that weaves together dynamic postures, intentional breath, and space for emotional or energetic release.

This practice leans into intensity. You may meet muscular challenge, elevated breath, and moments that ask you to stay present with sensation. Everything is offered with choice. You’re always in charge of how you deeply engage, how do you modify, and when you rest.

Music is part of the container. The playlist is metal and heavy, played louder than a typical class, with lyrics. Sound is used as fuel, support, and texture for the practice rather than background.

This class is a good fit if you enjoy strong movement, clear structure, and an environment that supports expression over performance. Less about aesthetics. More about honesty in your body.

Come, prepared to move, breathe, and take up the space you need.

Wednesday & Saturday @ KBY - BIPOC YOGA (an affinity space).

Join us for a yoga class designed specifically for and led by the BIPOC community. This class was created to center and celebrate the experiences of Black, Indigenous, Latinx/Latine, Asian, Middle Eastern, and all People of Color who may not always feel fully represented or supported in traditional yoga, wellness, and studio fitness spaces.

Wellness spaces often default to white perspectives, leaving many without a sense of belonging or cultural understanding. This offering is not about excluding anyone – it’s about addressing those gaps and providing a dedicated space where BIPOC individuals can practice yoga, connect, and feel prioritized.

Classes are $5 or by donation.

hello friends,

tomorrow, 6:30pm at city hall in kalamazoo, there will be a peaceful protest led by the SWMI Democratic Socialists of America. i want to name this clearly and directly because what we are facing touches our nation, our local community, and the wider world we are part of. if you are able, i believe it is worth showing up.

there is a lot we are holding right now. grief, fear, anger, exhaustion, love. it can be tempting to tell ourselves that one evening, one body, one voice doesn’t really change anything. but protests are not inconsequential. history shows that sustained public protest has played a real role in policy change, labor protections, civil rights legislation, and shifts in public awareness. collective presence changes what becomes visible, and what leaders are forced to respond to.

Yoga comes from South Asia, from philosophical and ethical traditions that were never meant to be confined to personal comfort. the practice asks us to live with discernment and responsibility. the yamas, especially ahimsa (non-harm) and satya (truthfulness), call us to reduce suffering and to tell the truth with our bodies as well as our words. when we are able, showing up peacefully, grounded, and informed is one way we live the heart of the practice.

if you plan to attend, please take a few minutes to review protest safety and know-your-rights guidance from the American Civil Liberties Union. knowing your rights is part of caring for yourself and others.

ACLU protester safety guidelines
https://www.aclu.org/know-your-rights/protesters-rights

we will also be sending an email soon with an opportunity to be in community and to fundraise in solidarity with minnesota, with the intention of directing immediate support where it is needed most.

however you choose to move through this moment, you belong here. and if you are able to stand with others tomorrow evening, know that your presence is not small.

with care,
shelby
