Way back on this day in 2020, Nicole Parker joined me as a masters-level intern. At that time, FC was just me! Nicole was the most amazing intern, but more than that, she was (and is forever) fierce, hard working, and unstoppable balanced with compassionate, kind, and a real-life healer of emotional pain.

After finishing her internship, Nicole joined me as a therapist and we became a team of two. She took a chance on me and FC. Nicole is quick to remind me of the hustle and hard work it took back in the day before we had support staff and targeted internet presence- but her work ethic and determination are like no other and Nicole is a force to be reckoned with.

Nicole became a dedicated and talented EMDR therapist, helping so many people heal from things that they thought were unrecoverable. She is almost done with training in s*x therapy, and already has her sights set on Neurofeedback.

FC would never be what it is today if Nicole hadn't taken the chance she did. Who she is as an incredible person and clinician is such a gift to all who encounter her.

Happy 6th anniversary, Nicole! My heart overflows with gratitude for you.

A little bit more about neurodivergence and therapy, this time from Brandy Burnham, LLP, LPC. Brandy is able to provide assessments related to autism with adults.

Some of the best things about working with the neurodivergent population are the exposure to unique individuals who often think and act differently than a neurotypical person. Jennifer Austin, LMSW, is passionate about working with neurodivergent individuals. Here is a little bit from her about her approach:

Working with neurodivergent adults means holding two truths at the same time: practical strategies matter, and so does deep self-compassion. When it comes to ADHD and autism, therapy can’t be one-size-fits-all. If traditional approaches aren’t adapted, they often miss the mark. Many clients come to me feeling like therapy has never worked because they’re “doing therapy wrong”. In reality, their brains just work different.

My work is grounded in the belief that neurodivergent brains need accommodations, not correction. I bring creative, evidence-based approaches into every session, whether we’re talking about executive functioning, relationships, burnout, or self-esteem. I work with clients to provide tools they actually use and help them unlearn the shame that so many neurodivergent adults carry.

I strive to understand each client’s unique wiring, because therapy is most effective when you feel seen, respected and supported exactly as you are.
