This morning, I gave Him my one loaf of bread. It was all I had.
Then you know what happened?!
I am running in the Boston Marathon on April 20 to raise funds for furnishings for a new SHALOM home! Please join me on this epic, three-marathon run (Boston, Furnishings Fund marathon & cancer marathon)!
It’s reported in Matthew 14:17-21 about the five loaves and two fish. When the disciples reported this was “only” what they had (meaning, we failed to bring anything useful), Jesus said simply, “Bring them here to me.” Then Jesus thanked the Father and distributed to all. And there were leftovers!
This morning, I felt I had only a little to give. But I gave it to Him, my one loaf. Bring your “only” to Jesus. I didn’t expect a miracle, but I knew it was proper and necessary, and it was my sacrificial act of worship.
I ran in the Portage Winter Blast Half Marathon this morning (13.1 miles), as a test and for training. I knew I was not in the shape I had been, what with winter being so hard, cancer radiation and on-going hormone blocker.
But I felt compelled to go, to show up, and to give everything to Him – my one loaf. I dedicated it to Him. It was meaningful and hard to give. But I gave it all.
It was good training. The Lord trains (disciplines) those He loves (Hebrews 12:6). It wasn’t about performance. It was about submission.
“…but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. “Make level paths for your feet,” so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed. (Hebrews 12:10-13)
What is your one loaf of bread you’ll give Him?
My performance was 2:20:38, about 20 minutes slower than “normal.” But I gave it to the Lord with all my heart and body towards training for Boston, to raise funds for furnishings for the people we serve.
“Bring them here to me.” I invite you so share this post and to give a loaf of your love. Thank you for bringing your loaf to the Lord!
PRAISES! Radiation FINISHED as of last Wednesday! And I do feel so much better already. That was really hard. Training (discipline) is hard!
Loaves continue to be brought to Jesus! The Woolery Participants have a jar to give their gifts. I am so proud of their effort and example! Their goal is $500.
Please pray that I will be disciplined in training (how those words relate to being a disciple) over the next five weeks. Only eight weeks to Boston!
Checks - write to SHALOM, "furnishings" in memo, send to PO Box 265, Kalamazoo, MI 49004. Card or pay pal link in the comments.
