March marks Women's History Month! In 2026 the theme is Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future.

To commemorate the occasion, staff and consumers from our Portage home and Alcott Day Program learned a little about some influential women in history and wrote letters to women in their lives that inspire them!

Monday blues got you down? Not at our Day Program! We had some drum therapy this weekend to brighten our moods and play some tunes. Our friendly drumming team will be back on the 11th!

Every year our local police officers from the Portage MI Dept of Public Safety - Police & Fire visit for a meet and greet with our individuals. They had chocolate milk and orange juice while eating donuts (no pun intended!) There’s coffee for the officers and this event always reminds us that our local police force are people too and everyone needs a nice pick-me-up every once in a while.

It's a great event to help educate the police about our population. It gives them some understanding about how we serve our individuals with respect and dignity that hopefully they can take with them while they are serving the Portage community as well.

The 2026 annual Night to Shine event was a SHINING success! Individuals from some of our homes and Day Program had the chance to cut a rug, snap some pics, and enjoy live music at Southridge Church for Valentine's Day.

The Night to Shine event is catered to persons living with mental and developmental disabilities, providing a sensory-friendly environment and an opportunity to relax in a stress-free event.

We look forward to attending and volunteering next year.

Last weekend one of our Individuals Served at Community Living Options did something amazing! Participating in a community weightlifting competition!

After more than 35 years of dedication to weightlifting, this was his first time stepping into a public competition, and he crushed it. He trains every Thursday at West Hills Athletic Club, preparing for the Special Olympics Summer Games in May, where he’ll head to Mt. Pleasant to compete.
