We’ve added a section to our website about The Last Session Project, in collaboration with Rebecca L Photography.

We are honored to share Rebecca’s work and help guide families to this gentle end-of-life photography option for pets.

These sessions are quiet, unhurried, and centered on connection. There is no set fee, and while many families choose to offer a donation, it is never expected.

Spring is here, and as the ground begins to thaw across Michigan, we know many families start thinking about burial as a way to honor their pets.

A gentle note from Peaceful Moments Pet Aquamation & Memorials:

When families say goodbye to a beloved pet, many choose burial. It feels natural, personal, and deeply meaningful.

There is something we feel is important to share:

The medication used for euthanasia (pentobarbital) ensures a peaceful, pain-free passing. However, it remains in the body after death and does not break down quickly in the environment.

This can have unintended effects:
• Wildlife and neighborhood animals can be harmed if they come into contact with remains.
• Birds of prey, foxes, coyotes, and even other pets are at risk.
• The medication can persist in soil and the surrounding environment.

At Peaceful Moments, we believe families deserve both compassion and information when making aftercare decisions.

Aquamation offers a gentle, water-based alternative that:
• Is environmentally responsible.
• Eliminates the risk of pentobarbital exposure to wildlife.
• Provides a respectful and private aftercare option for your pet.

There is no “right” choice, only what feels most meaningful for your family. We are here to support you with guidance, transparency, and care every step of the way.

At Peaceful Moments, we understand that every goodbye is deeply personal — and every memorial should feel meaningful.

While we do not currently offer aquamation services for large animals, we are honored to support families by providing high-quality large animal urn options for memorialization.

Many families find comfort in having memorial pieces that feel cohesive, especially when honoring multiple beloved companions. Choosing an urn that matches or complements those of other cherished pets can be a beautiful way to reflect the lasting bond they share within your family.

If you are navigating loss or planning ahead, our team is always here to help guide you with compassion and care. 💙

Please reach out if you would like to learn more about our memorial options.

🌊🐾 Frequently Asked Questions About Pet Aquamation 🐾🌊

Losing a beloved companion is never easy, and we know families want to understand all their options for gentle aftercare. Here are some of the most common questions we hear about aquamation, a natural and eco-friendly alternative to flame cremation:

✨ What is Aquamation?
Aquamation is a gentle, water-based process that mimics nature. Using warm water and a gentle current, it offers a flame-free way of returning your pet’s remains with kindness and care. It’s environmentally friendly, producing no smoke or flames.

🔥 How is it Different from Flame Cremation?

Flame cremation uses fire, aquamation uses water and alkali.
Aquamation uses less energy and produces fewer greenhouse gases. Families typically receive about 20% more ashes with aquamation.

💚 Why Do Families Choose Aquamation?

It’s a softer, more peaceful process. It’s a greener choice, leaving a smaller environmental footprint. The ashes returned are clean, light, and soft—many find them comforting to hold.

🕊 Is it Safe and Respectful?
Absolutely. Aquamation is a scientifically recognized and dignified process, used in both veterinary and human funeral care.

🧼 Are Harsh Chemicals Involved?
No. Only a gentle water and alkali solution is used—similar to natural soil processes and even soap-making. Nothing harmful enters the environment or wastewater treatment facilities.

🌎 Is it Really More Eco-Friendly?
Yes. Aquamation uses about 90% less energy than flame cremation and releases no CO₂ or mercury.

⚱️ Will I Still Receive My Pet’s Ashes?
Yes—you’ll receive your pet’s ashes, often a little more than with traditional cremation, as the process is so gentle.

💙 Choosing aquamation is a way to honor your pet with peace, dignity, and care for the planet. If you’d like to learn more, we’re always here to answer your questions.

We would like to welcome our newest PMPA staff member. Christine joined Peaceful Moments Pet Aquamation and Memorials in August of 2025, where she oversees the day-to-day operations. Her passion for animals extends beyond her work—she shares her home with a beloved cat and dog and has a special interest in caring for senior pets. Christine is also deeply drawn to anatomy and to exploring meaningful alternatives to traditional aftercare, such as aquamation. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, volunteering with the local VFW, and riding her motorcycle.

🌈 Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day 🌈
Today, we pause to honor the beloved pets who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Each one left paw prints on our hearts and memories that will never fade.

At Peaceful Moments, we are privileged to walk alongside families during some of life’s most tender moments—offering gentle goodbyes, loving aftercare, and heartfelt memorials. Whether your companion left this world recently or long ago, their spirit lives on in the joy they brought and the love they gave so freely.

💜 In memory of every tail wag, gentle purr, playful bounce, and quiet comfort—we see you, we remember you, we hold you in our hearts.

If you'd like to share a photo or story of your beloved pet today, we would be honored to celebrate them with you. 🕊️
