Happy Thanksgiving!
To all my loyal patients and friends, I am sorry to say that I will be closing my doors by the end of December. I was offered a job at the hospital that I just could not turn down- in the best interest of my family.
I am already missing my functional approach but do my best to impart my wisdom on my hospital ized patients. I have had many requests to keep my doors open. If the right situation comes along in the next year, I may make myself available a couple days per month for strictly functional medicine consultations on an affordable cash based model. If anyone is interested in this type of care, please feel free to email me and I will add you to my list.
I appreciate all your appreciation and support. Thank you
Dena

Do you or someone you know feel tired, run down, weight going up, bowels slowing down, hair falling out, mood on a roller coster? Have you thought it could be your thyroid and told it was fine? More than fifty percent of low thyroid function is due to an auto immune condition called Hashimoto thyroiditis. Standard of care is to wait until you thyroid burns out, then treat the thyroid. Standard of care from a functional medicine approach involves support in the form of nutrition, stress management and then medication if and when it is needed. If you find you fit in this boat, First Line Wellness has the key to feeling better. Treating the root cause for optimal health.

I love summer! Summer fruits and berries, fresh produce from the farmers market. I just read and article stating that a 'colorful' diet may lead to a longer healthier life. Those of us who practice functional medicine have known this for over thirty years. Food can be medicine and the best prevention. Berries are low glycemic, blueberries are excellent for brain health and memory, enjoy regularly.

What a wonderful weekend. We ended a great camping with an amazing salad with lettuce out of the garden, golden beets from Lower Valley Farms watermelon radish from my garden sardines and citrus dill dressing to finish it off. I feel great after my dinner, no bloating, no nasal stuffiness, no need for a post meal nap.
In my practice I am always encouraging my patients to use food as medicine. Whole foods can heal and reverse chronic disease, avoiding processed foods fast foods, disease can easily be reversed and health achieved. An example of the power of a simple meal is what I mentioned above. Golden beets loaded with Vitamin A which is very important for vision, vitamin C for immune and cardiac health, dill a handful of fresh dill in the blended with juice of three limes (more vitamin C) heart healthy avocado oil, a splash of rice wine vinegar and a pinch of salt and pepper. Dill can be helpful with depression and cardiovascular health. To top it off the perfect salad, sardines. Sardines are my favorite fish, they are an excellent source of Vitamin B 12, selenium, Vitamin D and omega 3 fatty acids-the prefect food for any autoimmune disease, thyroid problems, and cardiovascular health including cholesterol lowering. There are several varieties, I highly encourage you to buy a few and give them a try.
Eat well, food should energize and make you feel up for any task, not leave you feeling tired and depressed. If you need help making the change from calories to real food, from feeling depressed to energized and ready for the day, come see me at First Line Wellness so we can make a plan to guide you to optimal health.

Summer is really trying its best to be here to stay, today started out beautiful, and ended the same way. I started my Saturday as I will for the next 10-12 weeks, at the Kalispell Farmers market. This year it is bigger than ever, and getting to it bright and early is essential to get the best picks, although you can shop until 1:00 and still get some great produce for the week.
I encourage all my patients to get to the market regularly this summer for all the glorious food that is home grown in our valley. The best way to prevent chronic disease is to eat real food in a variety of colors every day. I recommend to everyone to go to the market, try two new veggies each week with recommendations from the farmer on how to eat it. Its the best way to try something new!. Tonight our dinner comes straight out of my two favorite farmers' ground, Rebecca at Two Bear farms has amazing sweet tender carrots and broccoli rabe, and Mandy from Lower Valley Farms has salad turnips from which I am using the greens, her cilantro, and Bok Choi in our stir fry seasoned with generous amounts of ginger and coconut amigos. Send in your favorite farmers market veggies and a recipe, would love to hear what you like to eat. Eat well, stay healthy.

Do you ever worry about your memory?, a loved ones subtle or significant decline in memory? Alzheimers disease affects a large portion of our society. Two thirds of which are women. While the disease can not be cured, it can be prevented or slowed simply by regular exercise! 45 minutes per day of aerobic exercise 'cleanses' the brain of unwanted 'junk' . For more information come see my blog.
