The National Fire Prevention Association has reported that 85% of fire deaths occure in the home, making home fire prevention a top priority. Here at Flathead Janitorial Restoration & Cleaning we care a great deal about disaster prevention and would like to remind you of a few ways you can prevent the possibility of fire in your own home.
*have your chimney inspected and cleaned
*have your heating equipment inspected
*clear away all combustible materials from all heat sources
*never overload electrical outlets
*only burn candles/use space heaters/use heated blankets when you are in the same room
*Install smoke detectors on every level of your home and outside of sleeping areas.
*Mount a fire extinguisher in the kitchen, garage and workshop
*Agree in advance on an escape plan. There should be at least two exits in every room
Note.: Half of all home fire deaths occur at night, so fire hazard checks and special attention to fire prevention should occur before going to bed.

HUGE ELECTRICAL BILL???? Here's a good tidbit for the day!!!Clothing lint and other debris can accumulate in your dryer vent, which accounts for many household fires. The U.S. Consumer Product Commission states that clothes dryers are associated with over 15,000 house fires a year.

Having a clean dryer vent can not only help prevent the hazard of a house fire, but can also enable your dryer to perform more efficiently. While the buildup of all that debris may not lead to a fire hazard, it is certainly preventing your dryer from running as smoothly and efficiently as it can. Cleaning your dryer is not only highly recommended its a safety protocol. A clean dryer vent can keep your dryer from overheating and allow your clothes to dry
faster.

Take a minute to walk outside your home and look at the exhaust hood of your dryer. Be sure the backdraft damper is clean and free to close on its own. Make sure to visually look in the pipe for any possible lint build-up or even birds nests.

If you can, look at the entire length of the vent and look for any smashed ducting or broken/disconnected piping. An open/broken pipe in a crawlspace or attic can and will, ultimately lead to a mold problem because of the moisture that escapes into the atmosphere.
