Stillwater Hospice Kalispell

Stillwater Hospice Kalispell A hospice, serving Kalispell and the Flathead Valley with expert care and compassionate support. Beyond comfort, we honor life and instill hope.

Care is provided wherever patients live, with personalized plans for patients and families. As an ACHC-accredited hospice, we are redefining care with professional medical expertise and a compassionate support network for patients and families. Serving Kalispell and the Flathead Valley, we take time to explain what hospice is, how it helps, and how we make every moment count. Beyond comfort and dignity, we believe hospice is about honoring life, instilling hope, and making the most of each day. Services are provided wherever patients live—at home, in nursing facilities, or long-term care—with teams that may include nurses, aides, chaplains, social workers, and volunteers. Each patient receives a personalized care plan, easing stress for them and their loved ones through knowledge, structure, and support.

One of the most powerful forms of love is advocacy.

Speaking up for comfort, values, and wishes isn’t easy — but it helps ensure care aligns with what matters most. Hospice teams exist to support those conversations with clarity, patience, and compassion.

February often celebrates love through big gestures — but in healthcare, love usually shows up quietly.

It looks like planning ahead, asking hard questions, and choosing care that reflects what truly matters. Thoughtful decision-making is one of the most meaningful ways families show love at the end of life.

Meet one of our most popular (and busiest) volunteers: Jax Lawless from our Rapid City, South Dakota agency! 🐾

Jax lives in Belle Fourche, South Dakota with his parents, Bonnie and Chuck, and regularly visits hospice patients, residents, and staff at Rolling Hills Healthcare — bringing comfort, connection, and joy wherever he goes.

When asked about his experience as a hospice volunteer, Jax shared:

“Being a volunteer is gratifying. I have met many people that are very nice to me. I can walk into a building and people start waving me over. I am told they miss their pet, and I am a substitute even if for a short time. Some people I know would like me to stay, or I get attached to some; there are those special people I would like to take more time with, but I have many people to see and sometimes it hurts me that I have to leave to see someone else. I had no idea when I started this almost two years ago I would bring joy just being me. The staff is nice to me and they remember my name. Some have even mentioned that they got busy on my last visit and were sorry they missed me. This warms my heart. I feel that volunteering is a privilege that not many dogs get to experience. I look to visit with all my new friends each week. I too am getting older. I hope I will be able to bring joy to more people for a long time.”

And Jax’s story began like this:

“Being a volunteer is gratifying. I had no idea almost 11 years ago when I was about two I would be doing this. Bonnie tells me a farmer found me in his field. He and his wife were nice, but they already rescued more dogs than they could handle. The farmer was in the welding supply store Chuck managed looking for a home for me. Chuck introduced me to my step brother and the rest is history.”

We’re grateful to have Jax as part of the Stillwater Hospice family! 🐾
