From our team at A Body & Mind Health Services-
A lot of change is occurring in the behavioral health landscape, and it’s crucial to be aware and reach out to legislators, as mental health has never been more important. We all have friends, family, and colleagues who need support.
As a mental health business serving a high population of Medicaid recipients—those most in need—we have faced numerous cuts from our state, making it challenging to provide the necessary services and fair compensation to those serving our community. Many individuals are not receiving food stamps as of November 1st, and housing affordability remains a pressing issue.
Reflecting on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, socioeconomic factors are significant contributors to mental health. Recently, my business and others received a 4% cut to our pay rates. Peer support, one of the most valuable services, is being removed from our service line, impacting our clients, employees, and those who rely solely on peer support in a state already facing a shortage of mental health professionals, especially in rural areas.
Mileage reimbursement, PHPs, and other vital services are also affected due to misallocated funding where it is needed most. I urge everyone to voice their support to our state and prioritize mental health. If you have time, please fill out this petition to inform our legislators that these cuts are detrimental to our community. We can all save a life and make a difference by prioritizing mental health.
For a lot of us that entered this mental health field to make a difference, we challenge you to do the same, as it might be your friend, family member, or colleague who is affected by our state’s cuts.
