I just got the BEST call today, and though I can’t say much, I can at least say that a last minute attempt at reducing a momma’s need for medical induction by using acupuncture and moxa was VERY successful.
That being said, there are times when this won’t be successful, and that’s when the body isn’t already primed and ready for labor. If it’s something like stress hormones, emotional blockage or fear that are preventing labor, I can definitely do something about that.
Otherwise, if the cascade of hormones didn’t begin weeks ago to get things going, it’s less likely acupuncture will help.
Because of this, if you’re at a higher risk of induction, it’s best to come in for acupuncture weekly at least starting at 36 weeks, so we can start slowly priming the body before the actual due date.
If there is little to no risk of induction, acupuncture can be helpful to reduce the length of labor or create a more comfortable labor, but if there’s no reason to hurry baby out, we focus more on comfort for the mom than rushing something that will happen in its own time!
Honestly, working with pregnant moms and doing doula work or acupressure during labor are my favorite parts of my job. Being a part of a soul’s transition into this world is such a sacred magical space... there’s really nothing like it. And being a part of someone’s journey towards motherhood is one of the greatest honors. 😭❤️
