Overall, Habilitat Hawai'i is a vital resource for individuals seeking support and guidance on their journey towards recovery and healing. It’s never really been about the destination.
You can arrive, pause, and even celebrate, but it’s the journey that leaves its mark.
It’s the long days, the effort, the setbacks, and the small wins along the way.
It’s the memories made in the hustle to get there, if you allow yourself to notice them.
Along the journey, people appear.
Some walk beside you and become part of your story, bonds built through shared moments, growth, and trust.
Others teach you something important too: that not everyone is meant to stay on your path, and that’s okay.
Arriving doesn’t mean the journey ends.
It just means you’ve reached one chapter, and it’s time to keep moving.
Because the journey goes on.
And so do we.

What is family, really?
Is it connection through blood and DNA?
Or is it connection built through shared struggles, through experiences that once felt heavy, painful, and impossible, but were faced together and survived?
Maybe family is found on the other side of those moments.
In the people who stayed.
In the ones who chose growth, healing, and honesty side by side.
Everyone carries their own definition of family, and there is no right or wrong one.
But there is something deeply comforting about knowing someone has your best interest at heart. Someone who is looking out for you, even when things aren’t easy.
Faces change.
Families grow.
Families get smaller.
But the heart of what family means should never change.
It’s not about who gets ahead first.
It’s about how we move forward together.
It’s about reaching the goal as a family, not alone.
Getting ahead matters, but so does pausing to ask how our choices affect one another.
Because here, we think collectively.
We look out for each other.
We move as one.
This is family.
This is the Habilitat family. 🌊🤍

Last night, our residents came together to celebrate Habilitat’s 55th anniversary in the most genuine way: by baking cakes, sharing laughs, and singing Happy Birthday. 🎂🎶
We sang in honor of Habilitat, a truly unique place and sacred ground for so many. A safe place where people are supported in making the changes that need to be made, so they can become empowered and create lives that are healthy, meaningful, and sustainable.
We sang in honor of our founders, Vinny and Vickie Marino, whose vision, heart, and dedication built a legacy that continues to evolve 55 years later.
We sang in honor of those who stand by this mission every single day, the staff, supporters, and community members who dedicate their lives to this place and the people in it.
And most importantly, we sang in honor of each other, for choosing growth, for showing up even when it’s hard, and for making the decision every day to change our lives.
55 years of impact. 55 years of hope. And the story is still being written. 💜

🎉 FOUNDERS DAY — 55 YEARS OF HABILITAT 🎉
Today, on Founders Day, Habilitat marks 55 years of hope, healing, and real change.
Founded in 1971, this day honors the moment a bold idea became a lasting mission: that people struggling with addiction could rebuild their lives through structure, accountability, hard work, and learning how to think for themselves.
This may sound a little biased, shaped by the deep belief and love we have for Habilitat, and by the fact that this program has changed lives in ways that are hard to put into words. But if you ask the people who love us—those who have watched us struggle with addiction and the consequences of bad choices—they will tell you the same thing: the change is real here.
Habilitat works because it has a formula.
A formula built on accountability, soul-searching, dedication, and hard work.
It isn’t easy, and it was never meant to be. The goal has always been bigger than comfort. The goal is to help people learn how to think for themselves, take responsibility for their actions, and make decisions that move them forward in life.
This vision was articulated by our founders, Vinny Marino and Vickie Marino. Vinny laid the groundwork for the program, and Vickie played a huge role in shaping the heart, structure, and daily life of Habilitat, helping turn a bold idea into a strong and lasting community. Together, they built something that would stand the test of time.
Through decades of change, challenges, and growth, Habilitat has stayed true to its mission. Every year represents perseverance. Every life touched represents hope.
💜 Happy Founders Day, Habilitat.
55 years strong. Still doing the work. Still saving lives.

Not only did we get to enjoy hearing his incredible music, but Jake also shared a message that carried deep meaning: gratitude brings balance to life.
Mahalo, Jake, for your time, your heart, and for reminding us of the power of gratitude. Moments like these stay with us long after the music ends.

The group enjoyed a night out watching the Golden Globe Award–winning film “Marty Supreme,” celebrating not just great storytelling, but the conscious choices being made every day toward healthier living.
Outings like this are about more than a movie—they’re about acknowledging and supporting those who are choosing their health, staying committed to wellness, and making the decision to live smoke-free.
Proud of the individuals who continue to show up for themselves and their future. This is how we start 2026 strong 💪🌱🎞️🎥

We had the honor of welcoming Hirie, a local artist well known in Hawaiʻi’s music industry, who came to Habilitat to share her talent and put on an incredible performance for our family. Her music filled the space with joy, connection, and holiday spirit.
A huge mahalo to Hirie for coming out and putting on such a memorable show for the Habilitat family. We’re grateful for her generosity, her heart, and the energy she brought to our Christmas Eve ❤️
Moments like these are what make the season so meaningful.

Every year at Habilitat tells a story. Some chapters are hard, some are healing—but all of them are shaped by the choices we make along the way.
As we welcome 2026, “Creating Your Own Destiny” is our trend of the year. Not as a slogan, but as a way of living. Destiny isn’t something we wait for—it’s something we build through our actions, our accountability, and the decisions we make when no one is watching.
What we choose today sets the direction for tomorrow. Here, we learn that growth comes from ownership, from facing consequences, and from choosing to keep going even when it’s uncomfortable.
2026 is about understanding that our future is directly connected to how we show up now. And at Habilitat, we choose to show up—fully, honestly, and with purpose.
