👵👴 Elderly Fire Safety Matters

Older adults face a higher risk of injury or death from fire due to mobility challenges, medical conditions, and slower reaction times. Taking a few simple precautions can make all the difference:

🔥 Install and test smoke alarms monthly
🔥 Keep space heaters at least 3 feet from anything that can burn
🔥 Avoid overloading outlets or using damaged cords
🔥 Cook with caution never leave the stove unattended
🔥 Create and practice a home escape plan

If you have an older loved one or neighbor, check in and make sure their home is fire safe. A quick conversation could save a life.

If you are currently providing care for a family member or loved one, you may qualify to receive compensation for the care you’re already giving.

There are programs available that allow family caregivers to be paid — but eligibility depends on age and program guidelines:

✔ Individuals under age 60: Contact the Illinois Department of Human Services – Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS).

✔ Individuals age 60 and over: Contact the Illinois Department on Aging (IDOA) or your local Catholic Charities office for the Community Care Program.
