Administrative professionals support patients, families, and care teams every day by coordinating schedules, managing important details, and ensuring operations stay organized. Their work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt across the entire hospital.

Today we celebrate the administrative professionals who help make compassionate care possible.

Behind every diagnosis and treatment plan is a team working carefully behind the scenes.

Medical laboratory professionals play a critical role in patient care. In fact, about 70% of medical decisions rely on laboratory testing. These dedicated professionals ensure every test is accurate, timely, and reliable so physicians can provide the best care possible.

During Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, we recognize the experts who help our care teams see what cannot be seen.

Help us celebrate our laboratory teams by leaving a message of appreciation in the comments.

Volunteers bring warmth, kindness, and compassion into hospitals every day.

Across the country, millions of volunteers give their time to support patients, families, and healthcare teams. In hospitals, their presence can make a meaningful difference by offering comfort, guidance, and a friendly face when it matters most.

This National Volunteer Month, we celebrate the individuals who generously share their time and energy to serve our community.

If you know one of our volunteers or have been helped by one during a visit, share a message of appreciation in the comments.

We are proud to partner with Mercy Medical Center to strengthen the safety of our community through the generous donation of seven Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).

These life-saving devices will be placed throughout our district, expanding access to critical care when every second counts. AEDs will be installed at Township of Sugar Grove , Village Bible Church - Sugar Grove Campus , and Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, with two placed at the Sugar Grove Park District. An additional unit will be available in our training room to ensure coverage when crews are out on calls and the space is in use.

In the spirit of regional collaboration, one AED will also be provided to Big Rock Fire Department for placement in their command vehicle—helping extend this life-saving impact beyond our borders.

This donation is more than equipment—it’s an investment in the health, safety, and resilience of our entire community.

Thank you, Prime Healthcare Illinois, for your continued partnership and commitment to saving lives. ❤️🚒

St. Mary’s Hospital, a member of Prime Healthcare Foundation, has been recognized nationally for excellence in emergency care, earning a 4-Star Top Performer designation for Overall Emergency Department Care and an Award of Distinction from Professional Research Consultants.

This recognition places the hospital among the top 25% nationally and reflects the experience patients receive when they need care most. From moments of urgency to times of uncertainty, the Emergency Department team is committed to providing care that is not only timely and effective but also compassionate and respectful.

For more than a century, the Emergency Department has remained open to serve the community, continuing that commitment every day. That dedication was especially evident in recent weeks as teams cared for patients following the March 10 tornado, reinforcing the hospital’s role as a trusted resource during times of need.

This achievement also builds on continued recognition for specialized emergency care, including Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation, reflecting a focus on meeting the unique needs of older adults.

This recognition is a reflection of the teams who show up every day ready to care for their community.

Stress can affect more than just your mood. It can impact sleep, energy, and even physical health. Taking time to care for your mental well-being is an important part of staying healthy.

This Stress Awareness Month, our care teams encourage everyone to pause and take a moment for themselves. A short walk, deep breathing, spending time with loved ones, or simply stepping away from a busy day can make a real difference.

What helps you manage stress or recharge during the week? Share your favorite tips in the comments and help others in our community find healthy ways to relax.

Health begins long before someone enters a hospital.

Public health efforts help protect communities every day through education, prevention, vaccinations, and programs that support healthier lifestyles. These efforts play an important role in keeping families safe and reducing the risk of disease.

During National Public Health Week, we recognize the professionals and organizations working to strengthen community health and expand access to care.

What steps do you take to support your health and well-being? Share in the comments and encourage others in our community to do the same.

As our community prepares for the upcoming storm, St. Mary’s Hospital remains focused on ensuring care remains available and accessible for everyone who may need it.

To help support uninterrupted medical services during severe weather, please note that the hospital’s underground parking structure is intended for medical personnel and hospital staff. This helps ensure that the doctors, nurses, and care teams our community relies on are able to continue providing care throughout the storm.

We kindly ask community members, when possible, to avoid parking in the hospital’s underground garage during this time.

Keeping this area available helps:

• Ensure clinical staff can reach the hospital safely and efficiently
• Maintain smooth traffic flow during challenging weather conditions

We are grateful for the community’s understanding and support. Working together helps ensure that care remains available for those who need it most. Resources are available should any patients or family members need assistance with accessing the hospital, which can be accessed by contacting 815-937-2109.

Please stay safe, and thank you for choosing St. Mary’s Hospital as your trusted care provider.

At St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, we are honored to care for patients whose stories remind us what compassionate, high quality care can achieve.

Dr. Edward S. Piatt recently shared his journey after years of persistent hip pain that gradually began limiting the active lifestyle he loved. A former athlete who stayed committed to daily walks and workouts, he eventually learned that bone spurs were causing the pain and that he would need a total anterior hip replacement.

Like many patients facing surgery, Dr. Piatt described feeling both relief at finally having answers and concern about the procedure. He shared how meaningful it was to feel informed and supported throughout the process. He credits the guidance he received from orthopedic surgeon Dr. Rajeev Puri and preoperative nurse Tonya Woods, who helped him understand what to expect before and after surgery.

Today, after 11 weeks of recovery, Dr. Piatt has completed physical therapy, walks two miles each day, has returned to working out, and continues to regain strength and mobility.

Reflecting on his experience, he shared:
"You can teach medical procedures, but you cannot teach excellence and the care for others."

We are grateful to Dr. Piatt for sharing his story and proud of the teams who help patients feel supported every step of the way.

March is National Kidney Month, a time to raise awareness about the importance of kidney health and the role early detection plays in lifelong well-being. Your kidneys work behind the scenes to filter waste, regulate fluid balance, and support heart health, so understanding your risk and taking action early can have a lasting impact on overall health.

Simple steps like regular checkups, monitoring blood pressure and blood sugar, staying active, and making heart-healthy nutritional choices can support kidney function and help identify concerns before they become serious. If you have questions about your risk, talk with your healthcare provider about appropriate screening and preventive care.
