For many children impacted by trauma and adoption, love is not simple or safe, and it has come and gone in their lives. Many may avoid moving forward in embracing connections while displaying behaviors like withdrawal, indifference, or anger toward caregivers. These nervous system reactions are meant to ensure the child's survival and self-protection, but can often be difficult for caregivers to parent through.

In this week's blog, we take a look at what actually helps in these situations and what parents can do to help foster a sense of safety for their children. Read our advice at the link below in the comment section!

Each year, almost 20,000 youth age out of foster care without the love and support of a family. Teens in foster care often wait longer to be adopted than younger children, but they never outgrow the need for family. These PSAs showcase real adoptive families, and celebrate how teens and adoptive parents actively choose each other by highlighting the unexpected rewards that come from adopting a teen from foster care. For more information about adoption from foster care, please visit AdoptKSKids.org.
