Vinny is here because of blood donors — people who showed up, rolled up their sleeves, and gave hope when it mattered most. As we revisit photos of donors throughout the year, we’re reminded that every donation tells a story of generosity and represents a life saved.

From Dec 20–Jan 2, every presenting donor at a drive or donor center can pick a cozy beanie or socks as a small thank you for helping save lives during the holidays, a time when donations are usually in short supply.

We recently hosted our annual Give for Eli the Great blood drive! ❄️ Despite the very cold weather, our incredible donors helped us collect 25 pints of blood—potentially saving 75 lives.

Eli’s family shared heartfelt words: “The blood you donate gives someone another chance at life. Be the reason for someone’s heartbeat. We pray Eli's beautiful little life serves a purpose in helping others.” ❤️

Every donor left with a “stuffy” ornament, Eli’s favorite stuffed animal. Thank you to everyone who gave, shared, and showed up to make a difference!

🌟 Donor Spotlight: UCM Athletics Volleyball Coach Steps Up to Save Lives

Big shoutout to University of Central Missouri Volleyball Head Coach Caitlin Peterson for rolling up her sleeve and leading by example at a recent campus blood drive! As an O+ donor, she knows her blood is often in high demand — and she says giving is “a simple thing that can have a large impact on so many.”

For her, donating is personal. She remembers the community rallying around her brother during his battle with blood cancer and says that experience showed her the true power of showing up for others.

As a coach and a mom, she tries to pass that mindset forward: "You constantly hear stories of how members of our community are stepping up to help others. While some of may not have a lot of money to donate or time to volunteer, we can all spend 30 minutes donating blood to help save lives."

Her message to students and athletes? In a busy world, caring for your neighbor is worth being intentional. Make an appointment, show up, and know that even a moment of discomfort can be life-changing for someone else!

This is the kind of leadership that strengthens a campus community. 💪❤️

Founded in 1958, Community Blood Center (CBC) serves hospitals in the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area, as well as eastern Kansas and western Missouri. CBC provides nearly 200,000 blood products per year to over 60 area hospitals and relies on volunteer donors each day to meet the need for lifesaving gifts of blood. CBC operates 365/24/7 to deliver safe, high quality products to meet transfusion needs for routine care and emergencies.
