As we begin our countdown to Christmas, we want to take a moment to honor and support t parents navigating this busy, joyful, and sometimes overwhelming season. Holiday gatherings, travel, changing routines, and colder weather can all impact feeding patterns, milk supply, and rest.. Whether you’re nursing between gift wrapping, pumping while out visiting family, or finding quiet moments in the holiday rush, you are doing something incredible.

Check the size!
When shopping for WIC-approved food items, the container size is important. For example, when the WIC Approved Food List states a half gallon container of lactose-free milk is allowed, you won’t be able to use benefits to purchase a 52 oz container of lactose-free milk.
Unsure of the approved size? The WIC Approved Food List is located at https://health.mo.gov/living/families/wic/approved-food-list.php and on the WICShopper app.

Did you know you have legal protections for breastfeeding at work and in public? 🤱

You deserve to feed your baby with confidence, wherever you are! 🌟Luckily, WIC is here to support lactation in the workplace by providing breast pumps and support through peer counselors and breastfeeding experts (like IBCLCs) to program participants.

Have you found it difficult to keep your baby close and nursing during the holidays?

This time of year often brings a steady stream of visiting family and friends, many of whom are eager to hold the new baby. It can be helpful to set boundaries and gently say no when you feel that you both need a break.

Try to keep your baby’s usual nursing rhythm.
Watch for your baby’s cues and respond to them promptly.
Be ready to step in if your baby becomes overstimulated or needs to nurse.
Seek out a quiet, calm spot for feeding to limit distractions.
Utilize baby wearing when you can.
As a bonus, staying close and nursing helps protect your baby from illness, thanks to the antibodies in your milk and the limited exposure.

With the holiday travel season upon us, it’s a great time to appreciate just how wonderfully portable breastfeeding truly is. No matter where your plans take you -road trips, flights, or family gatherings - it’s always ready, at the perfect temperature, and available whenever your baby needs it. It’s one less thing to pack and one more thing to make your journey a little easier. Breastmilk is the ultimate travel food!
