Had a great afternoon of in person research at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History https://www.mdah.ms.gov/ in Jackson. Nothing like holding the actual Muster rolls from a Civil War unit. Lunch after at Martins restaurant for good ole Southern food including field peas and cornbread.

For the Dec. 6th meeting we are planning several fun activities. One of the activities is "Who Am I". To participate in this activity send a photo of you as a child. If you live anywhere in the Greater Kansas City area and love genealogy, or want to learn more and share the love of this hobby with like minded people, please come join us!! We have a great time and are willing to help each other out on our quest for the past!

This past Saturday we practiced our skills in a tax workshop. We explored the Missouri State Archives records at https://s1.sos.mo.gov/Records/Archives/archivesmvc/census/ along with the FamilySearch records.

Great advice!

There are many reasons to join a genealogy society. One of the reasons is to share your passion with other like individuals. Join a network that knows trends, join classes, and help expand your research.
The Greater Kansas City Genealogy Society is a great place to start your genealogy research or to expand your research. Visit us at greaterkcgensoc.org or at a meeting the first Saturday's of the month.

If you anywhere in the Greater KC area we would love to have you join us at our monthly meetings at the North Kansas City Library, the first Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. It's a strong group of dedicated genealogists.

At the September GKCGS meeting on US Tax Records, we learned that there are over 15 types of tax records to search depending on the time and place of the record.
Thanks to Heather Jenkins from Balanced Genealogy for presenting a very informative meeting. We are looking forward to the workshop at the October meeting.

Look at these two cuties---our beautiful parents marrying 75 years ago in Washington, Pennsylvania on August 5, 1950 and then celebrating their 50th Golden Anniversary in Mississippi in 2000. They are together in heaven but the life they lived and the legacy they left through children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren continues on.

Any Ewings out there?

"Ewing in Early America" by Margaret Ewing Fife, published in 2003, is a wonderful well researched book focusing on the history of this family. This hardcover book is a valuable addition to any collection of genealogy and family research.
