July was pure chaos but managed to still eat some solid meals and snacks along the way.

Dear August, please take it easy on me.

Something I talk to clients about ALLL the time is that, life will throw curveballs. Sometimes more often than not. It’s important to prioritize your wellbeing in ways that are realistic with that. Work will always be busy, schedules will always be wild. You still deserve to put in time and effort for yourself.

Last week I posted about the “before” pregnancy impact of nutrition and lifestyle factors.

This week we are talking about the First 1000 days which includes pregnancy, postpartum/infancy, and the first year of toddlerhood.

This is a nutritionally demanding stage of life that has the potential to positively impact our future generations are well as improve maternal health for years to come.

Comment “🌱” below if you would like me to send you resources and literature regarding this topic 🤍

A couple weeks ago, I asked who had heard of the First 1000 Days or preconception nutrition and the influence on epigenetics. Overwhelming, the results indicated it’s not a well known topic.

It’s a topic near to my heart given my line of work and one I wish was more widespread.

This is a very brief summary but knowing the need for education, I plan to share more in the coming weeks to elaborate.

As always, this does not serve as personalized nutrition and medical advice. Consult your care team for more information as it applies to you.

Happy Reading!

To note: I share this, not to cause more stress, but to empower people to be able to make choices based on the evidence that is out there. With all things in life, we all must find balance in how we practice.

as an advanced practice dietitian on a remote workday for my full time clinical role + an evening as a part time telehealth dietitian

9am: breakfast! normally I eat ASAP in the morning but on these days I like to get my workday started early and eat mid morning. This meal was hearty so it kept me full through mid afternoon.

12pm: lunch walk break. I generally like to take my dog for a walk outside but we had severe winds this day so we kept it safe.

2pm: lunch! All in the airfryer and super quick. One of the best parts of work from home days is getting in a non-meal prepped freshly made meal.

3pm: getting hydration in! limeade is my jam. And afternoon pick me up. Also drank the rest of my morning coffee

4pm: getting in more movement during afternoon meetings. I cannot sit all day. If I do, especially working from home, my productivity dips and I get cranky and restless. This helps soo much! Also knew I wouldn’t want to get more movement in after evening clients wrapped up at 8pm. We ended the day with 9500+ steps!

5pm: prep and start for evening clients! I love getting to check in with them and see how they’ve been implementing the strategies we talked about to meet their short and long term goals, how it improves their wellbeing, and talking through next steps. I can only hope I’m sending out a little hope and knowledge into the world.

6:30: snack time! I do my best to practice what I preach so protein, fat, fiber, and color are essential to a balanced and nourishing snack. and save the day!

8pm: client wrap up and dinner time! Honestly impressed I had it in me to make homemade meatballs after a long workday but talking through priorities with my clients makes me more motivated to do those things for myself.

Life is always busy. There is always something. We have to learn to prioritize what’s important to us amongst the chaos. I may be a dietitian but I’m also human and I’m not special. I can do it. You can do it.

It’s 2025. Let’s take care of ourselves together 🤍

Let’s talk SNACKS!

I talk about snacks and improving nutrient density + sustained energy with essentially all of my clients.

Snacks get a bad rap, but really they are a great opportunity to add in foods to help you hit your goals. An extra opportunity to add color, fiber, and protein to your day.

Swipe to see some of my favorite options for salty and sweet balanced snacks.

What are you choosing?

Walking out of the testing center, officially now triple specialty board certified ✨

I can’t emphasize enough, how important it is to follow your heart and your mind when you want to do something even when people around you don’t understand or tell you you shouldn’t, or that it isn’t possible.

You can.

✨May Eats✨

As a registered dietitian focused on balance between good health and good food.

It’s grilling season so we’ve been having fun trying out new dishes, typically with Kevin managing the meat and me managing the sides- bonus when we can hit the farmer’s market in the morning to grab the ingredients for dinner

Ya girl has been HUNGRY. . per usual.

One of my goals for April was to increase my movement after a couple of slow months. That’s correlated with my appetite. If you need someone to tell it’s okay to honor your hunger cues. Here I am!

Breakfast this morning featured raspberry lemon muffins:

3 cups raspberry lemon pancake mix (modified slightly from the box recipe)
3 eggs
1.5 cups plain Greek yogurt
3/4 cup olive oil (or avocado)
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup mini white chocolate chips

They are so tasty and so convenient as part of a busy breakfast or snack in the afternoon 🍋
