11/24/2025

Warm Thanksgiving wishes from The Research Foundation! 💚🦃 As we head into the holiday, our team has been reflecting on what we’re most grateful for — and YOU are at the top of that list. Your support strengthens every part of our mission, from uplifting students and health care professionals to helping neighbors across Kansas City.

Because of your generosity, future health care workers earn scholarships, cancer patients receive much-needed support, and injury prevention education reaches young people throughout our community. Your impact is real, lasting, and felt by so many.

Earlier this month, our staff shared a Friendsgiving meal together—full of food, stories, and laughter. It was a simple reminder of how powerful community can be, and we feel that every day because of supporters like you. 🎥⬇️ Watch our Thanksgiving message to our friends and supporters below!

It’s peak season for wildlife-related vehicle collisions — especially with deer. 🚗🦌 November brings shorter days, mating season, and more animal movement at dawn and dusk, making crashes far more common this time of year. Our ThinkFirst of Greater Kansas City injury prevention program encourages drivers to stay safe with these tips:

➡️ Stay alert in areas marked with wildlife crossing signs
➡️ Slow down in low-visibility conditions
➡️ Use high beams when safe to spot animals’ reflective eyes
➡️ If you see an animal near the road, brake firmly — never swerve
➡️ Buckle up, avoid distractions, drive sober, and maintain safe speeds

By taking simple precautions, we can help prevent wildlife collisions and keep our roads safer for both people and animals.

Our final Advisory Directors' meeting of the year was one of our most well-attended of the year — and for good reason! We had the privilege of hearing from Sarah Knopf-Amelung of Amethyst Place, who shared powerful updates about their work supporting women and children on their journey to stability, healing, and independence.

We’re proud that The Research Foundation supports Amethyst Place through our Community Grants Program, helping strengthen programs that create lasting impact in our Kansas City community.

A special thank-you to our board members who joined us as well — your leadership and engagement make gatherings like this even more meaningful.

Together, we’re building a healthier Kansas City! 💚✨

Today is National Injury Prevention Day! 💚 Each year on November 18, we’re reminded how important it is to keep children and teens safe. Preventable injuries are still a leading cause of ER visits, hospitalizations, and even deaths. Our injury prevention program, ThinkFirst of Greater Kansas City, is committed to reducing brain, spinal cord, and other traumatic injuries among Kansas City's youth. We’re proudly supporting National Injury Prevention Day and shining a light on the small steps that make a big difference. Together, we can empower young people to make safer choices and build stronger, healthier communities. Stay safe. Think first.
