Anne’s support of The Research Foundation spans decades and has taken many meaningful forms. After 15 years of service on The Research Foundation Board of Directors, she completed her term in 2025. As Chair of the Program Committee, she played a key role in launching our Community Grants Program. Her leadership has also included co-chairing the Hoeper Primary Care Symposium. Anne has served as an officer in several roles—Secretary from 2015–2022 and Vice Chair from 2022–2024—and has been a steadfast supporter for more than 20 years. Her commitment is evident through her active involvement in events like the Candlelight Ball and Research Royal Dinner. Now, Anne is a member of our Advisory Directors as she continues her impactful work on the Program Committee!

The Research Foundation invests in health care students like Johana Infante-Magana. Johana is a recent graduate of Research College of Nursing and received the Dr. Kay Sullivan Memorial Scholarship from The Research Foundation. The scholarship was established in 1999 to honor Dr. Sullivan who retired from Research College of Nursing. After passing away in 2020, her family continues to support the scholarship in her memory. It is presented each year to ABSN students enrolled at Research College of Nursing who exhibit characteristics of excellence in clinical performance.

✨ From a spark to a calling ✨

Abigail Cunningham’s journey to nursing began at just 15 years old at Explore RCoN, a hands-on nursing camp at Research College of Nursing supported by The Research Foundation. That experience lit a spark—and today, it’s grown into a clear sense of purpose. Now a scholarship recipient of The Research Foundation and a student at Research College of Nursing, Abigail says, “Explore RCoN showed me that nursing is my purpose.”

Inspired early on, Abigail became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) during high school, gaining firsthand experience in compassionate, patient-centered care. Her goals are simple but powerful: choose growth over comfort, be a light in dark places, and speak up for those who can’t.

Abigail shares, “The scholarships I’ve received have made my career goals feel realistic. New possibilities are being discovered—possibilities that wouldn’t happen without this support.”

To our donors, Abigail adds: “Your gift doesn’t stop with a student. It ripples into the classroom and into the lives of patients we’ll one day care for.”

CONGRATULATIONS to our 2025 Community Grants recipients! 👏 The Research Foundation is proud to announce 44 local organizations selected to receive funding through our 2025 Community Grants initiative!

These grants support programs that expand access to care and advance health equity, with a focus on organizations serving Jackson County, Missouri, and prioritizing urban Kansas City.
