Time works differently in a hospital. Days and nights blend together, and your family’s schedule shifts around your child’s needs.

Our Food Service team knows that for families and night shift team members, sometimes “dinnertime” is 11 p.m. or 2 a.m. That’s why they recently launched CrEATe After Dark, a custom café for late-night dining at our Adele Hall Campus in Kansas City, Mo.

CrEATe After Dark is open every night from 7 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. and offers grilled sandwiches, burgers, a soup and salad bar, pizza and even sushi. Next time you need a late-night bite, stop in and check it out! 🥪🍲🥗🍕🍣

Pause.⏸️ It's the word we hear often around this time of year as we're encouraged to reflect on the year behind us and anticipate all that's ahead. In 2026, we’re taking advice from 18-year-old Sami, who was treated for a rare GI condition at Children’s Mercy:

“I’m really big on keeping hope,” Sami said. “It’s really hard when you’re in the moment – it’s hard to see that light. But I would never be where I am today if I didn’t keep hope.”

What themed word, notes of encouragement or affirmation do you have for our patients and families in 2026?

Parents dream about their kids’ futures all the time, and so do we. We want our patients to have all the options when they grow up. That’s where our Fertility Preservation Program team comes in. They meet with families when patients have conditions or treatments that put them at risk for infertility as adults.

“We educate patients and families on their risk and give them a say in their futures,” says Fallon, Oncology fertility nurse coordinator.

They always start with the "if": If you might want to have a family someday. They share the services Children’s Mercy offers and discuss the many ways people build families. The team helps caregivers talk with patients in age-appropriate ways and understand each other’s perspectives if they differ.

“It’s more about autonomy and not allowing the disease process to take that away from them,” said Tennille, Gynecology nurse practitioner. “It’s about making them feel like they are in control.”

It’s a bear-y special day when our friends at 15 and Mahomies stop by! 🧸 Thank you for bringing Build-A-Bear Workshop stuffies filled with love and a special message from Patrick Mahomes for our patients. 💙

When life blitzed Grady the night before his dream, he didn’t fumble — he fought back.

The 14-year-old fell and broke his hip the night before he was supposed to have his wish with Make-A-Wish Missouri & Kansas granted — to play catch with Patrick Mahomes. After emergency surgery at Children’s Mercy, Grady got an encouraging video message from The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback: “Know that the Chiefs and me are behind you. We’re supporting you!”

After several weeks of hard work at recovery, Grady’s dream came true: he slung spirals and chatted with Mahomes at the 15 and Mahomies gala.

Now Grady is returning the favor with some solid advice for Mahomes during the QB's recovery from a torn ACL: “Don’t doubt yourself! I had an injury kind of like yours, and I came back stronger than ever — you can, too.”

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the halls,
Not a creature was stirring - except our puppy pals.
Their mission was clear, with eyes shining bright:
Bring gentle comfort to each kid in sight.
“On Dusty! On Patsy! On Hunter and Litta!
On Jellybean - sweetest of all canine creatures!”
Their handlers encouraged as the puppies took flight:
"Happy paw-lidays to all, and to all a good night!" 🐾 🎄
