Don’t you dare try to tell Hunter how old 12 is in dog years – he is fur-ever young at heart and still bringing joy and comfort to many of his Children’s Mercy humans! 💛💙

This incredible pup has worked as a facility dog here for more than 10 years – first, with patients and families, and now, with our hardworking team members in the Center for Wellbeing’s Pause with Paws program. Hunter’s handler, Aimee, says that as soon as Hunter enters a room, he instinctively knows who needs some canine cuddles the most and heads right for them.

We wish him a very happy 12th birthday filled with peanut butter, bananas and belly rubs! 🥳 Love you, Hunter! 🥜🍌🐕

Kindergartners like Julianne have lots to do: ride bikes, play with friends and – for cooking-obsessed Julianne – help their parents in the kitchen.

The last thing they want to worry about is bathroom troubles. But for Julianne, who was born with kidney reflux, she had painful bladder spasms nearly every day. Even after corrective surgery for her kidney condition, her bladder issues continued.

It got to the point where every time they got in the car, Julianne would ask, “Are we going to Children’s Mercy?” But her urologist, Advanced Practice RN Azadeh, was determined to find a solution.

That solution was Posterior Tibial Nerve Stimulation (PTNS) - a non-invasive therapy that uses low-voltage electrical stimulation to help improve bladder function. After just a few sessions of PTNS, Julianne experienced major improvement, and by the end of the 12-week course of treatment, the pain was in the past.

Thursdays are extra special around here. That’s the day when our CEO, Ale Quiroga, shares his thoughts with the entire organization in the form of a weekly blog post.

Over the past year, we’ve met the amazing people he’s encountered as he excitedly shares his ideas about how to make things better for both families and team members.

But the biggest impact of his blogs is the way they connect each of our team members directly to the CEO – an experience that is pretty unusual in an organization of more than 9,000 employees.

🌻 Today we’re celebrating the Sunflower State — and our ongoing commitment to bringing care closer to home for local families.

Children’s Mercy began caring for kids in 1897 in Missouri. Ninety years later, in 1987, we crossed the state line to open the Children’s Mercy Specialty Center in Overland Park. Two states, same mission — to care for all kids.

10 years later — in 1997, exactly 100 years after our founding — we opened Children’s Mercy South. What began as a small satellite soon grew into what you now know as Children’s Mercy Kansas, our hospital campus providing world‑class pediatric care.

We’re proud to care for kids on both sides of the state line and throughout the region. 💙💛

Some milestones deserve an extra‑big celebration — and this family reached two at once. 💙🎓

Hailey and Michael walked into their anatomy scan as excited first‑time parents, but left facing the unknown after learning their baby, Harper, had swollen kidneys caused by urine not draining properly, along with signs of a cloacal anomaly — a rare condition that affects baby girls.

They turned to Children’s Mercy, where a coordinated care plan was created just for them. Hailey would deliver in our Elizabeth J. Ferrell Fetal Health Center, with our NICU team ready the moment Harper arrived.

Harper spent nearly 3 weeks in the NICU, cared for by nurses and providers her parents lovingly call “angels.” She’s now home and will continue follow‑up care with our Colorectal Center, including a reconstructive surgery later this year.

Her family says they’ll be “forever thankful” for the compassion, preparation and expertise that guided them through every step of this journey.

🎉 Help us congratulate Fetal Health Center graduate Hailey and NICU graduate Harper!

We couldn’t be prouder of these two strong girls — and the village that surrounds them. 💙
