Paging Dr. Kids: Your next patient is here…Teddy Bear! 🧸🩺

Yesterday, our hospital halls turned into a clinic for fuzzy friends.
Patients guided their new teddy bears through pretend CT scans, blood draws, IVs, X‑rays and even physical therapy, learning what to expect in a fun, low‑stress way.

This special experience, led by our incredible Child Life team, helps ease anxiety around real medical procedures and gives kids something comforting to take home. Because sometimes, a brave bear makes all the difference. 💙

When community meets generosity, magic happens ✨

Pink Dinosaur continues to show up in a big way for kids and families at Children’s Mercy. Through their latest merchandise partnership, the store raised $7,000 and donated another $5000 worth of goods to our Clothing Closet—providing clothing and comfort to patients and caregivers right when they need it.

We’re so grateful for this heartfelt partnership and the community that makes it possible 💙

Determined. Driven. Locked in. 🔐

Nicholas is a kid who doesn’t take “no” for an answer. Even before he could talk, he was using sign language to let his family know exactly what he wanted (usually, more ice cream!) 🍦

In school, he insisted on using his crutches instead of a wheelchair to navigate, even though it took him a little longer to get to class. And now, he’s preparing to graduate from high school and attend college on his own to pursue his passions for broadcasting and music. 🎙️🎶

The weather can’t decide what season it is here in KC, but regardless, our hearts are melting over here at seeing our facility dogs as puppies! 💙🐾

From their small beginnings, our facility dogs have BIG jobs to do to help kids (and their loved ones) feel calm, comfortable and confident when they visit the hospital. They’re more than just adorable – they’re paw-some!

One extra chromosome can mean extra giggles, extra grit and extra joy. 💙

Kids like Verone with Down syndrome deserve care that sees their strengths first. At Children’s Mercy, our Down Syndrome Program brings together specialists from genetics, cardiology, developmental pediatrics, therapies and more, so families can get coordinated all of the support they need in one place.

We work with children and caregivers from birth through young adulthood, helping them navigate each step along the way.

Light bulbs, sliced bread, the 2-lane drive-thru – there’s no doubt that inventions like these have improved our daily lives. But did you know that dozens of innovative medical devices and concepts started right here at Children’s Mercy, with the clinicians who work with our patients each day?

🫀 The CHAMP App allows babies with serious heart conditions to be monitored from home rather than spending months in the hospital between surgeries.

📱 PedsGuide provides decision support to health care professionals in situations where quick thinking matters.

🍳 Cooking with Keto Kids provides kid-friendly recipes for families whose children follow a strict ketogenic diet due to neurological conditions.

To take these great ideas from concept to completion, we have a dedicated team of experts in our Office of Technology Transfer and Commercialization. They help provide guidance and support through the complex process of patenting and scaling these inventions into real-world impact.
