A new record of 109 spay/neuter surgeries on Thursday — and our surgery team absolutely crushed it! 👏

These folks are no joke. Every single day they’re:
🐾 Lifting 70–130 lb dogs like it’s nothing
🐾 Handling spicy, feral cats with skill
🐾 Vaccinating, microchipping, drawing blood, prepping patients, and recovering them safely
🐾 Solo-intubating pet after pet with precision
🐾 Keeping the whole flow moving like a well-oiled machine

They show up ready for anything and make high-volume days like this look easy even though it’s some of the hardest work in the building! We couldn’t do what we do without them. Massive kudos to this incredible team. 💪❤️

Feel-Good Friday! Today’s good news comes from Mr. Lopez and his sweet pup, Misty! 😁

Mr. Lopez recently lost housing, but he never stopped fighting to keep his best friend by his side. Our team has been working closely with him to make sure both he and Misty could safely transition into stable housing again, together.

Last week, we delivered Misty’s records and flea/tick medication, the final pieces he needed to move forward with his new housing! He was so excited he told us he was giving Misty a bath right away so she’d be all ready for their new home. 🥰

Stories like theirs remind us why we do what we do. Sometimes helping pets means stepping a little outside the norm and we’re grateful we can do that to keep families like Mr. Lopez and Misty together. 💓

Tails of Hope: Marlee & Loki!
All donations are DOUBLED now through 12/31 to help pets just like them!

One of the most heartbreaking emergencies we see in our urgent care is urinary blockages in male cats. Without help, this condition can turn fatal in 24 hours.

💙Loki: Loki’s blockage came from crystals in his urine. His mom has cared for him since the day a stray cat gave birth on her porch, he’s been her baby boy for 3 years. When he was finally stable and ready to go home, she wept when she held him again...

❤️ Marlee: Marlee came to us in agonizing pain. His bladder was completely blocked from bladder stones (6th photo), and he was running out of time. Once he received treatment, he finally came out of hiding and melted into the sweetest, most affectionate boy! Finally able to feel relief again.

Stories like Marlee and Loki’s happen every single week in our urgent care. Your support helps us say “yes” when a pet needs life saving care. And right now, every dollar you give is DOUBLED to save even more pets.

A Bladder Stone Bigger Than a Ping Pong Ball?! 😱

A small dog came in for a routine spay last week, and during prep our Medical Supervisor found something shocking, a LARGE bladder stone that her owner had no idea was there! We were able to remove it after her spay and get her on the path to feeling so much better!

What Causes Bladder Stones?
- Bladder stones form when minerals in the urine build up and harden. This can happen due to:
🍖Diet
💊Chronic UTIs
💧Not drinking enough water
🧪Urine pH imbalances

Signs to Watch For
🐕 Straining, frequent urination, blood in the urine, or strong-smelling urine can all be red flags.

Our first-ever emergency pet food pantry was incredible. SO many pet owners showed up needing help — some crying, some greeting us with hugs and high-fives, some just relieved to know their pets would be able to eat. It was emotional, chaotic, and the need was real. We’re so grateful we could be there for our community when they needed us most.

We cannot say enough thank you to our staff and volunteers who jumped in, worked tirelessly into the night, and showed up with so much heart. You made this possible, and together we provided pet food for every single family who showed up last night.

Over 150 cars. 10,000+ pounds of pet food. One Kansas City parking lot.

Our first-ever emergency pet food pantry showed just how much families are struggling right now — and how powerful it is when our community comes together. We’re grateful we were able to answer the call for help and be there for the pets and people who needed us most.

Volunteer Spotlight: John!

We’re shining a big spotlight on John, one of our incredible admin volunteers! John dedicates his time each week to help with data entry, keeping our high-volume clinic organized and helping us care for hundreds of pets every week.

John isn’t just a whiz behind the scenes. He’s a true animal lover, greeting every pup with warmth and a smile. We love seeing him and getting to chat with him every week, and our other volunteers love him too! His positivity and dedication make our clinic brighter and our team stronger. We’re so grateful for John and the difference he makes every single week!
