Since 2009, For Strange Women has created perfume exclusively from plant aromatics. We source beautiful plant extracts from around the world and value sustainable practices. Botanical perfume can provide the spirit a connection to nature, the mind comfort, and the body an influence to calm or energize. We know that natural essences in just the right arrangement can transport the wearer to another time and place. These compositions are designed to create an experience that is beyond sensory aesthetics; conjuring memories from natural landscapes, experiences, and atmospheres remembered deep within the subconscious. Although mainstream culture presents perfume as a cosmetic to conceal other scents or to make us more attractive, we seek instead to create a sensory ritual that provides a connection to nature through its ability to communicate with our senses. We find natural perfume to be genderless and feel that the scent signature of our skin should be complemented, not hidden. Most of all, For Strange Women perfume is intended be worn as a personal indulgence and source of inspiration. For those who are normally allergic to perfume, this is typically a reaction to the chemicals hidden inside synthetic fragrances. We find natural plant oils to be safer and more satisfying to the senses. The complex scent arrangements evolve as they are worn and fade gracefully throughout the day.

She’s an escape, a muse, an entire experience. A sweet and sparkly opening of dreamy lilac and playful cotton candy settle into a crown of violets in this aromatic dissociation from reality. LAPSANG Souchong is the darkest black tea—a cult favorite, the drying process involves burning conifer branches below the tea leaves, imprinting them with the aromatic woodsmoke. This accord is like a brewed kettle with a touch of honey.

PEACHES is an unmistakable essence that captures the juicy sweetness, the velvety skin, and the creamy floral overtones of this luscious stonefruit.

CAVIAR is a fantasy accord that recreates this gourmet delicacy. The fresh, briny opening is supported with an undertone of seaweed to complete the strange dichotomy of this oceanic essence.

Our Accord Extraits are at a high concentration so that they can be worn sparingly or used to layer lightly into any other scent.

An accord is a singular recognizable essence, even if many different materials go into making it. This allows the perfumer to create essences that cannot be naturally derived otherwise, as well as enhance a specific material to bring out its fullest potential.

Accords are not formulated based on complexity or evolution, but instead they focus on specific scent memories.

You get one of us smiling, just this once. Thank you again for your kind enthusiasm, continued visits, and ongoing support for our work. The obstacles of being a small business are never-ending and we are lucky to be approaching the 18th year. Expanding our storefront these past couple years has shown us that we naturally attract our favorite people, which has been a great shift after 15 years of hiding behind the scenes in Kansas City.

London Fog has been in our line since 2014, minus a couple years that we were unable to source the materials. Then last year another brand released a perfume with the same name, along with a widespread promotion and distribution of it. Since then we are hardly able to keep up with supply on our own version. I suppose there are good things about intellectual property infringement sometimes? Not that I enjoy having my work diluted with imitations, but I try to not feel discouraged by it, and in this case it is nice to see so many new people discovering this one.

Cathedral is an aromatic recreation of the Catholic Ash Wednesday Mass. A stone cathedral is filled with antique wood, flickering candles, and glowing stained glass windows. A brass thurible releases the aromatic smoke of frankincense, myrrh, and benzoin incense. A cross of palm leaf ash is drawn on the forehead with a vow to repent and sacrifice.

We have more antique perfume bottles on the way, and will begin putting them out next week (available in-store only). It can be so hard to find things that are made as well as antique items, so I make a point to hunt for pieces that make gorgeous and unique gifts.

NEW TO OUR LINE - First released earlier this year as a Limited Edition.

This perfume is unlike anything else we have in our line. We use some specialty materials to create a very different scent profile that goes further into the dimension of texture. Most of our scents are smooth, rounded, and in some cases complex waves of peaks and valleys, but this one has a roughness; a spiky aura with an attitude. The scent is crisp, clean, easy to wear, and energizing.

SALT MINE is an essence of shimmering minerals in the still air of a deeply buried ancient sea bed. A sheer opening of citrus and fresh cypress recreate the clean air as you enter the caverns of sculpted Halite. The crystalline walls imprint the atmosphere with a refined texture that evaporates slowly into a dry underground of amyris and ambergris.

November conjures a cabin in the forest with Lapsang Souchong tea brewing on a wood-burning stove. Fallen leaves nestle into the earth and mushrooms sprout across thee damp forest floor. A chord of resins create a sweet aura reminiscent of the air after a cool, rainy morning.
