Peace on earth begins with birth.⠀
⠀
Jesus, born to bring us peace.⠀
⠀
Every gentle birth creates a ripple effect of peace for all who witness it, and for the baby's entire life.⠀
⠀
Bith matters. And God knew that. Perhaps that's why God INHABITED it, incarnated through it, with all it's wet and unpredictable glory.⠀
⠀
Merry Christmas, sisters. I’ll be signing off for a few days so as to be wholly present with my family, but I’ll see you next week!⠀
⠀

One chance with this moment. Fight for it.

You are biologically built to take in your baby's scent immediately after the birth. This means that your baby shouldn't be wearing a hat.

You are biologically built to need your baby skin to skin. This means that your baby shouldn't be up wrapped like a burrito.

You are biologically built to need no disturbances. This means that people, lights and sounds should be kept to a minimum/zero.

These biological acts trigger the release of Oxytocin, minimizing the chance of hemorrhage, works to birth the placenta and bonds you to your baby.

Flor Cruz

I think it’s time for a new update as I realized my last intro post didn’t include my newest baby.

I'm Britney, the face and heart behind Britney Asbell Doula Services. I am a wife to Tyler and mother to Lana, Tucker, Cade, and our newest baby Hudson.

I hold a BA in Psychology from Mercer University, but found my true love and drive in life is being a mother, a midwife assistant, a doula, and an advocate for maternal mental health. I lead the Macon area Climb Out of the Darkness event each June and was awarded Inspiring Mother of Georgia in 2017. My passion is motherhood and all things that it encompasses.

Why did I become a doula? That is a question I'm often asked.
Well, to simply put it, I wanted to help other women during their transition to motherhood, whether it be for the first or fifteenth time.
I hired a doula for the birth of my daughter and loved the experience. The impact my doula left on me from her actions and words during my labor gave me a drive to be that same space holder for other women.
I have been a birth doula since 2015.
I truly believe that "birth is birth." Each individual and their family should feel educated and validated in their decisions. I do not take away from anyone in their birth experience, I support you (your family) and encourage you (your family) on this journey in to parenthood, whether it’s the first or fifth (or more) time.

Thank you to my past clients! And I'm looking forward to working with any future clients.

Did anyone else spend quite a bit of time looking up Pinterest hospital bag checklists? 🙋‍♀️🏻 I did. I also used about 10% of the items I packed (maybe less).

What if we spent more time preparing supports and creating a village? What if we located services in our area and support groups? Can you imagine how much better off we’d be?

In my course, Keeping Mommy in Mind, you'll learn how to build a social circle and find local resources right in your neighborhood, how to manage your role as mom, and navigate changes in mood, relationships, and identity. You can learn more by clicking the link below ❤️

What would you put on your postpartum mental health checklist? Are there any resources you’ve found in your area that have been helpful?

How hard did it get? This hard: Lauren had a conversation with her mother about terminating her pregnancy because she had no energy, she couldn’t do anything for herself, and had to stop working…she couldn’t even eat. If you haven't gone through it, it can be hard to imagine feeling this horribly sick.

If you or anyone you know is going through extreme “morning sickness” which is actually Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG), listen to episode 185 of Mom & Mind podcast and share it. It is a very informative episode.
