Education changes outcomes. PLEASE educate yourself when you are pregnant...even BEFORE you get pregnant. Don't walk into your prenatal visits expecting your provider to educate you. Consider taking childbirth education classes.....in person! Read all the books. Do not get your info from tiktoc! Do not get your info from traumatized mamas! AND....hire a doula.

For years, pregnancy has been treated as a liability in women’s sports, something to navigate quietly, or worse, something that could cost an athlete her place.

In 2023, Dearica Hamby filed a federal discrimination complaint against the WNBA and the Las Vegas Aces, alleging she was traded after revealing she was pregnant.

Now, that moment has led to change. Under the WNBA’s new collective bargaining agreement, teams must obtain a player’s consent before trading her while pregnant, a direct response to the controversy surrounding Hamby’s experience.

This new policy sets an example for what support for women in sports and the workplace should look like. 👏

Beyond sterilizing pump parts, today looked like:
• Teaching proper saline and suction use.
• Identifying different types of cries.
• Using techniques that actually soothe a gassy baby.
• Guiding new parents through what’s normal vs. what needs attention

When postpartum support is done correctly, parents will feel confident caring for their baby, even when things feel uncertain.
