I like to see how patients respond to the ALF without a spinner bead initially. If, however, we continue to see issues with mouthing, oral fixation, sensory seeking, it can be a good indication that a patient may benefit from the spinner bead.

It can take a couple of days to get used to. After a couple of days though, when it’s the right intervention you’ll start to see a shift in oral fixation patterns.

I do not think the spinner bead is indicated in every case, but when the body needs airway support AND a fidget spinner to stimulate in order to regulate, it’s a great tool.
