Dawn's Defenders

Dawn's Defenders Dawn's Defenders is a page created for our amazing friend, Dawn Holt! Since then she has undergone many tests looking for the primary cancer site.

Dawn's Defenders is a page created for our amazing friend Dawn Holt to keep all of her friends and loved ones updated on her journey. On March 12th, after having a persistent cough for weeks, Dawn had a CT of the chest which showed a mass. On Monday March 16th the mass was biopsied and on the 18th the results came back as metastatic cancer in the lung. A malignant tumor was found in her colon on Thursday and we are awaiting final biopsy report, but the doctors think it looks like a primary cancer of the colon which has spread to the lung. At this time Dawn is still in the hospital as her lung was weak enough that she had a pneumothorax (deflated lung) after her biopsy. A chest tube was placed in her lung to re inflate it. Today (Sunday March 22) she got her chest tube out! And we are hopeful that she will be able to come home tomorrow! She will be going to KU for treatment starting soon!! Please join us in keeping Dawn and her family in your thoughts and prayers and using this page to send her well wishes!

Happy March 💙 Quick update & March Requests 💙

Last month was busy - I started February by finishing a 5 day radiation treatment on the tumor that hangs out on my sacrum. Goal was to reduce pain - so far so good! I can already tell a difference there, yay! Next I had round #136 of chemo. These meds seem to be keeping things stable for the most part so we will continue. Next up - had my monthly Covid test and well that thing came back positive. Symptoms were mixed with chemo side effects, so surprise!! I have great doctors - Dr. Huyser takes great care of me and got me in for an infusion pretty quickly. My body has taken a bit longer to get over some things but I am much better. Because of that I had to skip a treatment (darn) so I will get back on it next week. Yesterday I had my right lung drained - that is getting a bit rougher now but hoping they got enough off for some relief. Tomorrow we get to go see Evan swim!!!! Knowing that was coming has kept me going - as well as the support from you amazing people!! Please keep reading…

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness month. It is also the 7 year (7!!!!) anniversary of my diagnosis. Could you do a couple things for me this month? If you are 45 or older or experiencing symptoms (message me for more info) PLEASE schedule your colonoscopy. Early detection is so very important!! Since this is 7 years for me, I am also going to ask if you would wear blue 7 days this month. On those days also let others know why you are wearing blue. I would love to see pictures of lots of blue!!! I can’t say thank you enough for all the love sent my way 💙💙 Happy March!!

💙Hello! I have not been very good about updates here or on my personal page. I am going to try to do better!

💙 I am hanging in there! I try to keep a positive attitude for the most part, but to be honest….this is hard! I cry, I am angry and sometimes I am very lonely.

💙 The tumor on my sacrum started causing extra pain again so I am currently finishing up a 5 day radiation treatment. I did that in 2018 and it really helped so we are hoping it will do the same this time.

💙 Those crazy lungs of mine are mostly stable, but give me the most work! My right lung fills up with fluid and has to be drained more often. The tumors spread throughout both lungs require the “chemo for life” that I am still getting every other week. Next Tuesday will be #136! Recovery each time is a bit harder after almost 7 years - but I push through so I can enjoy the better days.

💙 I have some counts that keep increasing higher than they should be. There may be something small hiding - not showing up yet?!? First we added more frequent draining then radiation. Next we may add the pump back to chemo. I will keep you in the loop.

💙 I love my people (+dog)! I can’t say thank you enough to you guys that keep me going!! You know 🥰😘

💙 Sharing a few recent pics, hope you enjoy!! I would love to hear from you and I really will try to do better with updates. I will post here and also share to my personal account and Instagram. I probably post the most updated pics in my Snapchat story - dawntloh if you want to follow. Not too exciting but you can see my dog, crafts and waiting room feet selfies. 😜
