Last Friday, our very own Peer Support Specialist, Dave Sorensen, had the opportunity to speak with 26 Intro to Social Work students at UNK. The discussion focused on mental health, peer support, addressing stigma, and the services SCBS provides. Thank you to Professor Janice Hill and her class for the engaging conversation and thoughtful questions!

❤️ South Central Behavioral Services Outpatient Office Participated in the Red Sand Project ❤️

The South Central Behavioral Services Outpatient Office proudly participated in the Red Sand Project; by pouring red sand into the cracks of our sidewalk, we joined communities across the country in raising awareness about the vulnerabilities that can lead to human trafficking, modern slavery, and exploitation.

🟥 The red sand symbolizes individuals who are often unseen—those who fall through the cracks of society.

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, a time to come together as a community, start important conversations, and take action.

We are grateful to stand alongside organizations and individuals committed to awareness, prevention, and advocacy.

Happy 5th Anniversary to Jamie, Mental Health Worker at ACT!

Jamie moved to Hastings Nebraska in Nov. 2006. She has always had a passion for helping others. She got her CNA and worked in a local nursing home until she took a position working at Mary Lanning's Behavioral Service Unit where she was employed for 8 years. Although working on the Behavioral Service Unit was very fulfilling, Jamie wanted to use her experience and expertise helping clients and their families within the community. In November 2020 Jamie began working at Opportunity House through South Central Behavioral Services. In April 2021 she made the transition to join the ACT program and now assists clients in the community as a Mental Health Worker. Jamie enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.

Congratulations, Jamie! Thank you for all that you do for SCBS and our clients!

Happy Holidays! During this giving season, we'd like to share one of the ways that we give back to the community and those we serve! Attached to Opportunity House, we have a thrift store. Those we serve have the chance to work in the store to build on their work readiness skills and grow in their communication skills! 💪

Every single cent we earn in the thrift store goes to paying those who work in the thrift store! 🥰 That's right, not only is the thrift store a great opportunity to build skills, but all of the profits go to their hard work and efforts to keep it clean, organized, and a safe place to buy your favorite used items! ♥️

This year, we have a surplus of Christmas items, thanks to generous donations from the public! We would like to extend a warm invitation to visit our thrift store for your Christmas needs! From vintage to modern, we have what you need for Christmas this year and for a great price! 🌲🎁

Our thrift store is open Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, from 1-4 pm. Whether you want to donate or buy something, we encourage everyone to stop by this year and check us out and support our hard-working people.

For donations: we do accept donations during these times. However, if you're not able to donate during these hours, you are always welcome to call ahead and one of our staff can assist you. 💞

Wishing everyone a very WARM and HAPPY Holiday season! Thank you! 🌲🥰🎁
