Stronger together for healthier airways 🤍

KMT & Jordan Cochran, DDS loved hosting the incredible doctors, hygienists, and myofunctional therapist from Pediatric Dental Specialists of Kearney, Grand Island, and Hastings for an evening of snacks, conversation, and collaboration.

Our shared goal is simple but powerful: help more families understand that mouth breathing, sleep-disordered breathing, and myofunctional disorders have real solutions—and early support can change a child’s growth, sleep, and long-term health.

Together, we’re working to:
• Increase awareness for parents about airway-focused care
• Support orthodontic stability through proper function
• Help kids sleep better, breathe better, and thrive
• Strengthen collaboration between providers
• Advocate for broader professional acceptance and insurance recognition of myofunctional therapy

When dental teams and myofunctional therapists come together, our communities benefit. We’re grateful for partners who are just as passionate about helping kids grow with optimal airway function and lifelong health.

Here’s to continued teamwork and bringing more awareness to the families we serve. 💬✨

Have you tried the new trend where you ask ChatGPT to create a caricature of you based on everything it “knows”?

Apparently my digital footprint is… all things MYO! 😄

Surprised? Probably not. Anyone who knows me knows I eat, sleep, and breathe myofunctional therapy. It’s truly become a passion of mine, and I love sharing it with all of you and helping patients along the way. ❤️

Also, shout-out to AI for making me look extra young and refreshed… I’ll take it! 🙌🏼

But there’s more to me than myo… I’m also a dental hygienist, a wife, and a proud mom of three. I love to travel, golf and spend time with my family — so of course I had ChatGPT add in my other passions too.

Now I want to know… have YOU tried this trend yet? If you did, what did AI say about you? 👀 Post yours below!!!!

Did you know… we swallow 1,000 times a day on average? 👅

Each swallow is meant to be guided by the tongue resting gently on the roof of the mouth. When tongue posture is off, the body practices that incorrect pattern thousands of times—every single day.

Over time, this can impact:
• tooth alignment
• jaw and facial development
• speech
• airway and sleep quality

The good news? Swallowing is a learned pattern—and with myofunctional therapy, it can be retrained at any age.

🦷 February is Pediatric Dental Month 🦷

If you hear your child grinding their teeth at night, you’re not alone — and it’s worth paying attention.

Teeth grinding in kids is often more than a habit. It can be linked to breathing, sleep quality, tongue posture, and airway development. Grinding is frequently a sign, not the root cause.

The good news? Early awareness and support can make a big difference. When we address oral function, we help protect growing teeth, support healthy development, and improve sleep.

🚗 When a car breaks down, you don’t ignore the warning lights… you fix the root cause.
So why do we ignore the warning signs of mouth breathing?

👄 Chronic mouth breathing can negatively impact:

• Adenoids & tonsils
• Tongue posture & function
• Teeth, palate & occlusion
• Orthodontic stability
• Lips & jaw development
• Facial growth, symmetry & muscle balance
• Sinuses, ears & allergies
• Speech & swallowing
• Dental & gingival health
• Sleep quality & behavior
• Concentration, mood & stress tolerance
• Blood pressure & heart rate
• Immune & respiratory systems
• Digestive health
• Weight/BMI
• Head & neck tension

⚠️ The only thing mouth breathing positively affects?
➡️ Emergency oxygenation.

That’s it.

🚘 If your car had this many issues, you’d take it to the shop immediately.
Mouth breathing is no different—it’s a *symptom*, not the problem.

🔧 Let’s pop the hood, identify the root cause, and restore proper nasal breathing.
Because optimal function leads to long-term health, stability, and performance.

✨ Myofunctional therapy helps get you back on the road—running the way you were designed to.

🙌🏼 Another KMT Graduate! 🎓✨

Let’s hear it for Cannon!

When Cannon started myofunctional therapy, he was dealing with:
• Tongue tie
• Malocclusion
• Restless sleep & dry mouth
• Poor tongue posture and limited tongue control
• Swallowing with compensations (lips, head, and neck)
• Poor body posture, facial asymmetries, and low lip tone

💪🏼 Through consistency, commitment, and hard work, Cannon made HUGE progress across all of his goals.

One of his biggest wins? Orthodontic retention.
His upper braces came off shortly after our first session, and as he moves into full orthodontic treatment, myofunctional therapy is helping ensure his results last — meaning a beautifully straight smile and healthy bite without having to repeat braces down the road 🙌🏼

👉🏼 Parents, you know what that means:
Less frustration. Less time. Less money. 😁
And a whole lot more confidence in your investment.

Orthodontic stability is just one piece of Cannon’s success. He’s on his way to a healthier life with proper oral function, better posture, and improved sleep — wins that go far beyond the smile.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 A huge round of applause for Cannon and his family for sticking with the process and putting in the work. We are so proud of you!
