Kristi Farren, RN, is one of our nurses in Cardiac Rehabilitation. Farren has worked here for 16 years, initially starting as a housekeeper and patient transporter.

She says she appreciates the great communication between providers across our hospital.

"I think that really reflects in even just like traveling doctors that we've had here in Cardiology will complete their time with us, their assignment, and ... they come back because they said it was such a positive environment."

In honor of National Recreational Therapy Month, meet Ellen Levasseur, CTRS, our recreational therapist! 👋🏻

Recreational therapy is vital to the success of our Rehabillitation Unit through activites that focus on improving cognition and physical skills, as well as supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of each patient. We are so thankful for Ellen's hard work and dedication!

"There truly is nothing better than helping someone be able to find a new sense of purpose, joy and regain abilities after loss," she said.

Protein is everywhere these days, from smoothies to even chocolate bars. How do you know if you’re getting enough protein? And is it possible to have too much?

"It's really important to be aware of what you put in your body—and to do your research," Neal Goldenberg, MD, MA, one of our orthopaedic surgeons and our director of sports medicine, said in Dartmouth Health's Living Better newsletter.

Kristi Farren, RN, is one of our nurses in Cardiac Rehabilitation. Farren has worked here for 16 years, initially starting as a housekeeper and patient transporter.

She says working in Cardiac Rehabilitation has been very rewarding.

"Our patients come to us after having open-heart surgery or stents placed or heart attacks or valve surgery, so it's all really scary diagnoses ... We really get to see them progress from feeling really nervous and unsure to exercising and kind of getting back into their normal activities."

This Valentine's Day, don't forget to take care of your heart ❤️

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in New Hampshire, as well as across the country. Implementing lifestyle modifications, like daily exercise and limiting alcohol consumption, will reduce your risk of developing heart disease.

Today, our Emergency Department (ED) staff participated in a mass casualty incident and trauma skills day. The training included refreshers on respiratory education, controllling severe bleeding, mass casualty triage practice and more.

All ED staff were invited to the training, as well as local nursing students and emergency service agencies who we work closely with. By working with our colleagues at other agencies, we are also better able to transition from prehospital care to ED care.

Today's training was created and facilitated by the ED's Shared Governance Committee, a team of frontline ED staff. The committee uses evidence-based practice to improve and enhance patient safety, clinical outcomes and patient and staff satisfaction.
