Keesler Medical Group Warriors Strengthen Readiness Skills

On Feb. 11, 2026, members of Keesler Medical Group traveled to Woolmarket, Mississippi, to conduct Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) training.

Military personnel and operational responders who may be required to provide immediate lifesaving care in high-threat or austere environments are required to go through TCCC
training. TCCC is a critical, evidence-based trauma care system designed to rapidly identify and treat preventable causes of death on the battlefield, with primary focus on massive hemorrhage, airway obstruction, and breathing emergencies. This level of care is implemented immediately at the point of injury and sustained through all phases of care—Care Under Fire, Tactical Field Care, and Tactical Evacuation—where seconds directly impact survival.

TCCC is a necessary qualification for combat zones, deployed environments, training operations, and any tactical setting where delayed medical intervention increases the risk of preventable death. And the reason is because most combat fatalities occur before reaching a medical facility. Without rapid, properly executed TCCC interventions, survivable injuries quickly become fatal—making TCCC essential to preserving life, maintaining combat power, and ensuring mission success.

📢 359th Medical Wing Hosts CMRP Skills Rodeo at Keesler!
On Jan. 23, 2026, the 359th Medical Wing at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, hosted the Comprehensive Medical Readiness Proficiency (CMRP) Skills Rodeo at the Don Willey Auditorium. This biannual event brought together 20 instructors, two leads, and 66 participants from seven Keesler Medical Group squadrons, including a 36th Air Evacuation Squadron Reserve Flight Medic who served as an instructor.

The CMRP Skills Rodeo is designed to enhance the deployment readiness of medical personnel by providing hands-on training in critical, real-world scenarios. Participants honed their skills in areas such as:
• Belmont operations and damage control resuscitation
• Thermal/burn injuries, blast and crush injuries, and eye and neurologic injuries
• Mechanical ventilation, litter carries, and air evacuation considerations
• Tourniquet deployment, mental health considerations, and combat stress management
• Medication and immunization administration

This comprehensive training not only sharpens medical skills but also ensures personnel are prepared to respond effectively in high-pressure, combat, and operational environments. Events like the CMRP Skills Rodeo are vital to maintaining the readiness and excellence of our medical teams, ensuring they are always mission-ready.

“This biannual Comprehensive Medical Readiness Program (CMRP) Rodeo is critical for ensuring our medical personnel meet deployment currency requirements,” said 1st. Lt. Kyle Herzberg, gastroenterology element chief. “Through this training evolution, we’ve seen aerospace medical technician (4N) currency increase from 72% to 90% and registered nurse (46N) currency improve from 71% to 90%, significantly enhancing our readiness and operational capability.”
