From 6 months of age onwards, the IgG antibodies passed from the mother to the child have decreased significantly. At this time, the child's immune system has not yet been fully developed, and it is not until the age of 3-4 that this system will produce enough antibodies to help fight infectious diseases. (This is one of the reasons why extended breastfeeding is crucial. Breastmilk provides the antibodies to help fight off these pathogens.)
