Duplin County Animal Services

Duplin County Animal Services Finding loving homes and rescues for the stray and unwanted animals of Duplin County. Space is limited, so every adoption and rescue truly saves a life. 🐾❤️

We invite you to come to view the animals here: https://www.petango.com/DUPLINCOUNTYANIMALSERVICES We will help you find the best-suited animal for you and your family. We do require home checks prior to adoption. An application can be found here: http://www.duplincountync.com/wp-content/uploads/DCAS-Adoption-Application.pdf. and emailed back to dcanimals@duplincountync.com. We also require two (2) forms of I.D. with your correct physical address, one of which requires a photo i.d. We accept debit/credit or cash. All the stray animals here are required by law to be here 72 hours before adoption. Once you fill out the adoption application, please allow 48 business hours for processing. Include any vet references you may have. If you do not own your home and land, you must have appropriate paperwork stating animal consent agreements from the owner. If you reside on base, you will need written consent from Command. By filling out this application, you will be consenting to a home check by your local animal control agency. If your application is approved, you will pick your available pet out. An adoption contract will be signed for every adopted pet. Typically, the animal is old enough for alteration and will be scheduled by Duplin County Animal Control at Our Contracted Vet with the New Owners' knowledge of the appointed time. Please remember if your pet has had surgery, the pet cannot get wet for 10 days and must be in a clean, closed, air-controlled environment to heal properly. We have a 14 kennel shelter with 819 sq. miles and a population of 60,000 people with 7-10 pets per person, with many strays and owner surrenders... There is nowhere to house them nor support their care on the budget we are given, or any budget. We are too small of a shelter to be accepted into a grant program, so we search day in and day out for a place for them, we beg, we plead, and most importantly we try to keep everyone informed so they have an opportunity to make a difference where we cannot, our volunteers and supporters make such huge difference for these furbabies. You may donate below if you would like to help get a larger facility. https://www.duplincountync.com/new-animal-shelter-project/

🐾 Meet MICKEY!
Mickey is a tiny, timid 2‑month‑old Mixed Breed pup who’s still figuring out the big world around him. Weighing just 9.8 lbs, he’ll grow into a medium‑sized dog once fully grown — but right now, he’s all soft puppy eyes and quiet nerves.

Mickey has two siblings, and he is definitely the most scared of the trio. He prefers sticking close to them for comfort and will often hide when he feels unsure. Even though he’s shy, he doesn’t mind being held — he just needs gentle handling and patience as he learns to trust people.

With time, love, and a calm environment, Mickey has every chance to blossom into a sweet, loyal companion.

✅ Why You’ll Love Mickey:
• Sweet, shy puppy who needs gentle reassurance
• Prefers quiet environments and patient people

🐾 Meet WOODY!
Woody is a big, lovable 7‑month‑old Hound Mix who’s already tipping the scales at 64.6 lbs — and he’s still growing. This handsome boy will be a large dog once fully grown, and he’s got the personality to match: chill, observant, and full of potential.

Shelter staff say Woody is pretty calm for a pup, taking in the world with curiosity rather than chaos. He does try to play with other dogs, but he’s still figuring out how. He doesn’t like dogs jumping on him or getting in his face, and he can be a bit dominant — not in an aggressive way, just a dog who appreciates respectful boundaries.

He’s heartworm negative, healthy, and ready to learn with someone who understands big‑breed puppy energy and confidence.

✅ Why You’ll Love Woody:

***RESCUE ONLY***

🐾 Meet MARLOW — A Loving Mama Devoted to Her Three Precious Babies!

Marlow is a sweet, gentle, and protective young mama who came to the shelter with her three little ones — two boys and one precious girl. At just about a year old and weighing 7.6lbs, she’s still practically a baby herself, yet she’s doing an incredible job caring for her kittens.

She and her babies are RESCUE ONLY, as the little ones are still nursing and need time, safety, and stability to grow. Marlow is very loving and affectionate, and while she’s protective of her babies (as any good mama would be), she warms up beautifully once she feels comfortable with you. When she trusts you, she’s perfectly okay with you interacting with her kittens.

Her babies are still very scared of humans and not used to being handled, but with patience and gentle care, they’ll learn that people can be safe and kind.

🐾 Meet ERNIE — A Shy Heart Who Just Needs Someone to Believe in Him
💖 Why You’ll Love Ernie
Ernie is a gentle, sensitive boy who came into the shelter as a stray, carrying a past no one fully knows. What the staff do know is that he’s shy, unsure, and still learning that people can be kind. With patience, love, and a calm environment, Ernie has the potential to blossom into a loyal, trusting companion.

He enjoys being around other dogs and feels more confident when he has a furry friend by his side. Even though he’s timid, there’s a sweetness in him that shines through when he feels safe.

❗ Special Notes
Ernie is heartworm positive, but heartworm‑positive dogs deserve love too — and with treatment and care, many go on to live long, happy lives.

He also came in with embedded collar wounds, a heartbreaking sign that he may not have been treated kindly before. The good news is that his wounds are healing well, and he’s already showing signs of feeling better physically and emotionally.

He will need an adopter who understands shy dogs and is willing to give him the time, reassurance, and gentle guidance he needs to feel secure.

I really enjoy playing with other dogs — they help me come out of my shell. I may be heartworm positive, but I still have so much love to give. I hope someone sees past my fears and gives me the chance to feel safe, loved, and understood. Maybe I’ll even find my perfect home before Valentine’s Day.

🐶 A Message From Goofy
Hi! I’m Goofy — or Goofy Goober if you want to make me wiggle with excitement. I’m about four years old and a very big boy, but don’t let that scare you. I’m happy, respectful, and I know how to sit, shake, lay down, and stay. I love toys, I love playing, and I really like other dogs too.

Even though I’m huge, deep inside I just want to curl up in your lap and be held like a baby. I’ve got a big heart, a goofy personality, and I’m ready to bring joy, laughter, and love into my forever home.

🙏

Our Story

We have a 14 kennel shelter with 819 sq miles and population of 60,000 people with 7-10 pets per person, with many strays and owner surrenders.... There is no where to house them nor support their care on the budget we are given, or any budget. We are too small of a shelter to be accepted into a grant program, so we search day in and day out for a place for them, we beg, we plead and most importantly we try to keep everyone informed so they have an opportunity to make a difference, where we cannot, our volunteers and supporters make such a huge difference for these furbabies. You may donate below if you would like to help get a larger facility. A larger building would bring so many changes for these animals, allowing them more time to find placement. As of right now, with our tiny building, they are only required the minimum state law requirement of 72 hours. However, we give them 125 hours total to try to find a better alternative. The building fills faster than people can get them out. Euthanasia is a sad truth here but with all the help, the village has performed miracle after miracle for these animals to have a second chance. For the ones we were unable to help, we wear on our sleeves. Help us make a change!! WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A NO KILL SHELTER! JUST KEEP IN MIND, IF YOU ARE NOT PART OF THE SOLUTION, YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. THEREFORE, BE PRODUCTIVE.
