Duplin County Animal Services

Duplin County Animal Services Finding loving homes and rescues for the stray and unwanted animals of Duplin County. Space is limited, so every adoption and rescue truly saves a life. 🐾❤️

We invite you to come to view the animals here: https://www.petango.com/DUPLINCOUNTYANIMALSERVICES We will help you find the best-suited animal for you and your family. We do require home checks prior to adoption. An application can be found here: http://www.duplincountync.com/wp-content/uploads/DCAS-Adoption-Application.pdf. and emailed back to dcanimals@duplincountync.com. We also require two (2) forms of I.D. with your correct physical address, one of which requires a photo i.d. We accept debit/credit or cash. All the stray animals here are required by law to be here 72 hours before adoption. Once you fill out the adoption application, please allow 48 business hours for processing. Include any vet references you may have. If you do not own your home and land, you must have appropriate paperwork stating animal consent agreements from the owner. If you reside on base, you will need written consent from Command. By filling out this application, you will be consenting to a home check by your local animal control agency. If your application is approved, you will pick your available pet out. An adoption contract will be signed for every adopted pet. Typically, the animal is old enough for alteration and will be scheduled by Duplin County Animal Control at Our Contracted Vet with the New Owners' knowledge of the appointed time. Please remember if your pet has had surgery, the pet cannot get wet for 10 days and must be in a clean, closed, air-controlled environment to heal properly. We have a 14 kennel shelter with 819 sq. miles and a population of 60,000 people with 7-10 pets per person, with many strays and owner surrenders... There is nowhere to house them nor support their care on the budget we are given, or any budget. We are too small of a shelter to be accepted into a grant program, so we search day in and day out for a place for them, we beg, we plead, and most importantly we try to keep everyone informed so they have an opportunity to make a difference where we cannot, our volunteers and supporters make such huge difference for these furbabies. You may donate below if you would like to help get a larger facility. https://www.duplincountync.com/new-animal-shelter-project/

🐾 Meet Mo (3 of 3)
Personality: Shy, cautious, and the most timid of his siblings
Favorite Things: Quiet spaces, the comfort of his siblings, and slowly learning trust
Toy Preference: Still too shy—he prefers safety over play for now
Mo was brought into the shelter with his siblings, Meenie and Miney, as feral kittens. While all three have made progress, they’re still skittish and need more one-on-one time and attention than the shelter can provide. A rescue would be ideal, as they have the resources and experience to help these tentative little caterpillars become the social butterflies we know they can be.
That said, if an adopter understands that these kittens will need patience, love, and understanding, Mo could be a wonderful addition to the right home. Of the trio, he’s the most scared—quick to jump when someone passes by and the first to hide. But with gentle care and time, Mo has the potential to blossom into a sweet, loving companion.
Why You’ll Love Him:
• Gentle soul who just needs patience
• The most cautious of his siblings, but full of potential
• Perfect for someone who enjoys helping shy kittens grow
Mo isn’t just looking for a home—he’s looking for someone who will give him the chance to feel safe and loved. Could that be you?

🐾 Meet Miney (2 of 3)
Personality: Shy, cautious, but playful with his siblings
Favorite Things: Playing with Meenie and Mo, observing from a safe spot, and slowly learning trust
Toy Preference: More comfortable playing with his siblings than solo—for now
Miney was brought into the shelter with his siblings, Meenie and Mo, as feral kittens. While all three have made progress, they’re still skittish and need more one-on-one time and attention than the shelter can provide. A rescue would be ideal, as they have the resources and experience to help these tentative little caterpillars become the social butterflies we know they can be.
That said, if an adopter understands that these kittens will need patience, love, and understanding, Miney could be a wonderful addition to the right home. Of the trio, he’s the “in-between” kitten—more comfortable playing with his siblings than venturing out on his own just yet. With time and gentle care, he has the potential to grow into a sweet, playful companion.
Why You’ll Love Him:
• Gentle and cautious, but playful with his siblings
• Ready to thrive with patience and love
• Perfect for someone who enjoys helping shy kittens blossom
Miney isn’t just looking for a home—he’s looking for someone who will give him the chance to grow into his full, loving self. Could that be you?

🎉 ADOPTED TODAY – 11/14/25! 🎉

🐾 Meet Meenie (1 of 3)
Personality: Curious, cautious, and the most outgoing of her siblings
Favorite Things: Peeking out from her safe spot, exploring toys, and slowly learning to trust
Toy Preference: More interested than her siblings—she’s starting to discover play
Meenie was brought into the shelter with her siblings, Miney and Mo, as feral kittens. While all three have come a long way, they’re still skittish and need more one-on-one time and attention than the shelter can provide. A rescue would be ideal, as they have the time, resources, and experience to help these tentative little caterpillars become the social butterflies we know they can be.
That said, if an adopter understands that these kittens will need patience, love, and understanding, Meenie would be a wonderful choice. Of the three, she’s the most outgoing—more likely to come to the front of the cage and more curious about toys. She’s still shy, but she’s showing signs of blossoming into a sweet, playful companion.
Why You’ll Love Her:
• The most curious and outgoing of her siblings
• Beginning to explore toys and play
• Ready to thrive with patience and gentle love
Meenie isn’t just looking for a home—she’s looking for someone who will give her the time and care she needs to grow into her full, loving self. Could that be you?

🐾 Meet Hazel
Personality: Gentle, affectionate, and still a kitten at heart
Favorite Things: Rubs, head scratches, treats, and being near her people
Toy Preference: Unsure for now—she’s more focused on love than play
Hazel is a beautiful tortoiseshell who has clearly been a mama at least once, but she’s still young and full of affection. At 2 years old, she just wants to be loved and petted. When staff spend time with her in the cat room, she’s happy and content—but if they leave, she hides and meows sadly until they return. The moment she realizes someone is back, she comes out again, ready for attention and companionship.
She’s used to being outside, but her sweet and loving nature makes staff confident she’ll do well inside or outside. Hazel doesn’t quite know what to do with toys yet, but she loves rubs, head scratches, and treats (the more the better!). Like many cats who grew up outside, she doesn’t enjoy being carried, but she tolerates it politely. Hazel is ready to give her whole heart to someone who will give her a chance.
Why You’ll Love Her:
• Sweet and affectionate with people
• Loves attention and treats
• Perfect for a quiet, loving home
Hazel isn’t just looking for a home—she’s looking for someone to stay by her side and love her back. Could that be you?

🐾 Meet Earp
Personality: Playful, energetic, and eager to please
Favorite Things: People, dogs, and any chance to play
Training Needs: Boundaries and social cues—he’s willing to learn!
Earp arrived at the shelter with his buddy Wyatt after being found running along Interstate 40. Though not a bonded pair, the two got along well and were even kenneled together for a time. Staff believe they may have once had owners but were likely tied up outside with little human interaction.
At about 2 years old, Earp still acts like a puppy—full of energy and excitement. He loves people and other dogs, but he doesn’t quite know his size or how to read body cues yet. Training will be important, but the good news is he’s a total sweetheart who wants to please and is eager to learn. From his dynamic with Wyatt, it seems like he hasn’t had much experience with other dogs, so he’s desperate for a playmate who can match his energy. When he finds one, it’s game on!
Why You’ll Love Him:
• Sweet and playful with a puppy-like spirit
• Loves attention and thrives on companionship
• Ready to learn with the right guidance
Earp isn’t just looking for a home—he’s looking for someone to help him grow into the best version of himself. Could that be you?

🎉 ADOPTED – 11/15/25! 🎉
🐾 Meet Wyatt
Personality: Calm, low-energy, and content to do his own thing
Favorite Things: Warm sunshine, naps, and the occasional zoomies
Dog Preference: Gets along well with others, but values his space
Wyatt came to the shelter with his buddy Earp after being found running along Interstate 40. Though not a bonded pair, the two got along well and were even kenneled together for a time. When Wyatt was found, he still had a torn-off cable attached to his neck, leading staff to believe he may have once had owners but was likely tied up outside with little human interaction.
Despite his past, Wyatt is a chill older dog who doesn’t mind people or other dogs. What he truly loves is having his own space—a warm spot in the sun where he can rest his bones and enjoy a well-deserved nap. He’s low-energy and easygoing, the kind of dog who will likely be right where you left him. Every now and then he’ll surprise you with a burst of zoomies, but for the most part, Wyatt just wants to sit back, relax, and take life easy. After all, why rush? This is Wyatt’s world—we’re all just living in it.
Why You’ll Love Him:
• Calm and low-maintenance companion
• Loves naps and sunshine
• Occasionally playful but mostly relaxed
Wyatt isn’t just looking for a home—he’s looking for someone who appreciates the quiet joy of a laid-back friend. Could that be you?

Our Story

We have a 14 kennel shelter with 819 sq miles and population of 60,000 people with 7-10 pets per person, with many strays and owner surrenders.... There is no where to house them nor support their care on the budget we are given, or any budget. We are too small of a shelter to be accepted into a grant program, so we search day in and day out for a place for them, we beg, we plead and most importantly we try to keep everyone informed so they have an opportunity to make a difference, where we cannot, our volunteers and supporters make such a huge difference for these furbabies. You may donate below if you would like to help get a larger facility. A larger building would bring so many changes for these animals, allowing them more time to find placement. As of right now, with our tiny building, they are only required the minimum state law requirement of 72 hours. However, we give them 125 hours total to try to find a better alternative. The building fills faster than people can get them out. Euthanasia is a sad truth here but with all the help, the village has performed miracle after miracle for these animals to have a second chance. For the ones we were unable to help, we wear on our sleeves. Help us make a change!! We know its hard to see the ones that do not make it and its harder still for those of us who get to know the animals personally. Opinions about loss of a life are valued if portrayed in a constructive, respectful and intelligent way. Those people making comments for shock value or for what we feel is creating problems will be permanently banned from our page. We don't feel that we all have to be best friends or even like each other, but we do need to be respectful of each other while posting on this page. By taking part in discussions on our page, you are agreeing to the policy outlined below. We reserve the right to delete posts. We especially reserve the right to delete posts containing the following:

- Profane or offensive language; Inappropriate, irrelevant information or misinformation; - Bullying and personal attacks; - Promoting violence or illegal activities; - Supporting individuals or organizations which promote animal cruelty; or - Spam or commercial sales.
