Finding loving homes and rescues for the stray and unwanted animals of Duplin County. Space is limited, so every adoption and rescue truly saves a life. 🐾❤️
We invite you to come to view the animals here: https://www.petango.com/DUPLINCOUNTYANIMALSERVICES We will help you find the best-suited animal for you and your family. We do require home checks prior to adoption. An application can be found here: http://www.duplincountync.com/wp-content/uploads/DCAS-Adoption-Application.pdf. and emailed back to dcanimals@duplincountync.com. We also require two (2) forms of I.D. with your correct physical address, one of which requires a photo i.d. We accept debit/credit or cash. All the stray animals here are required by law to be here 72 hours before adoption. Once you fill out the adoption application, please allow 48 business hours for processing. Include any vet references you may have. If you do not own your home and land, you must have appropriate paperwork stating animal consent agreements from the owner. If you reside on base, you will need written consent from Command. By filling out this application, you will be consenting to a home check by your local animal control agency. If your application is approved, you will pick your available pet out. An adoption contract will be signed for every adopted pet. Typically, the animal is old enough for alteration and will be scheduled by Duplin County Animal Control at Our Contracted Vet with the New Owners' knowledge of the appointed time. Please remember if your pet has had surgery, the pet cannot get wet for 10 days and must be in a clean, closed, air-controlled environment to heal properly. We have a 14 kennel shelter with 819 sq. miles and a population of 60,000 people with 7-10 pets per person, with many strays and owner surrenders... There is nowhere to house them nor support their care on the budget we are given, or any budget. We are too small of a shelter to be accepted into a grant program, so we search day in and day out for a place for them, we beg, we plead, and most importantly we try to keep everyone informed so they have an opportunity to make a difference where we cannot, our volunteers and supporters make such huge difference for these furbabies. You may donate below if you would like to help get a larger facility. https://www.duplincountync.com/new-animal-shelter-project/

Personality: Sweet, affectionate, and loves to cuddle
Favorite Things: Treats, being held, and all the attention you can give
Training Needs: Basic manners and continued socialization
Berrie was brought to the shelter by an Animal Control Officer after she was found abandoned and underweight. She is doing much better now and has gained most of her weight back—enough that we would not consider her rescue-only—but any potential adopter should be aware of her background.
Berrie is a lapdog and a true cuddlebug. While she likes other dogs, she absolutely loves people. She just wants to be held, petted, and loved. And of course, she loves treats (for obvious reasons!).

🐾 Rescue Needed: Meet Nala & Her Puppy
Personality: Sweet, loving, and proud mama
Favorite Things: Showing off her baby and gentle attention
Special Needs: Nursing care, quiet environment, and time to decompress
Nala was brought into the shelter by an Animal Control Officer after she showed up on someone’s property. When she first arrived, she was sweet but reserved — and showed no signs of pregnancy. She was fully vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas and ticks as per our intake protocol.
Imagine our surprise when staff arrived Sunday morning to find Nala had given birth overnight! She only had one puppy, and so far, she’s been an excellent mother. Nala is very proud of her baby and loves showing her off to anyone who passes by.
💬 Important Notes:
• Nala is fine with people around her puppy but is protective toward other dogs. This behavior was not present before, so we believe it’s due to maternal instincts.
• Because she is nursing, Nala and her puppy are not available for adoption — they need a rescue commitment.
Please find it in your heart to pull Nala and her baby for your rescue and give them the safe, loving home they deserve.
Why They Need You:
• Mama is healthy but needs a calm environment to raise her puppy
• Puppy is too young for adoption and needs stability
• Both deserve a second chance
📋 NALA’S PROFILE

🐾 Meet Romen (5 of 5)
Personality: Shy and nervous at first — sweet and cuddly once he trusts you
Favorite Things: Snuggles, sibling playtime, and chew toys
Training Needs: Basic puppy manners and confidence-building socialization
Romen was brought to the shelter by an Animal Control Officer along with his siblings. He was sharing a kennel with his sister Rhea until recently and is the only boy in the litter. Romen is shy and a little nervous at first, but once he feels safe, he becomes a typical sweet and cuddly puppy. He enjoys attention from both people and his siblings, and he loves chew toys!
Romen and his siblings seem to be doing just fine, but as always, we advise that any potential adopter take him to the vet for a full checkup, just to be safe.
💬 Disclaimer 1: Because this litter came in without mom or dad, we are only guessing that they are German Shepherd mixes — we do not know that for certain. What we do know is that Romen is adorable and in need of a loving home!
💬 Disclaimer 2: Romen and Rhea recently had to be separated because they were fighting with each other. They did not break the skin and had been getting along before, and they still get along with their other siblings. We believe this was due to sharing a small kennel for too long, but we want potential adopters and rescues to be aware.
Please give this sweet boy a chance at a loving home!
Why You’ll Love Him:
• Sweet and cuddly personality
• Loves chew toys and snuggles
• Young and ready to grow into a wonderful companion
💙 Every puppy deserves a safe, loving home. Could yours be the one Romen’s been waiting for?

There is no where to house them nor support their care on the budget we are given, or any budget. We are too small of a shelter to be accepted into a grant program, so we search day in and day out for a place for them, we beg, we plead and most importantly we try to keep everyone informed so they have an opportunity to make a difference, where we cannot, our volunteers and supporters make such a huge difference for these furbabies. You may donate below if you would like to help get a larger facility. A larger building would bring so many changes for these animals, allowing them more time to find placement. As of right now, with our tiny building, they are only required the minimum state law requirement of 72 hours. However, we give them 125 hours total to try to find a better alternative. The building fills faster than people can get them out. Euthanasia is a sad truth here but with all the help, the village has performed miracle after miracle for these animals to have a second chance. For the ones we were unable to help, we wear on our sleeves. Help us make a change!!

OUR POLICY By posting on our page, you are agreeing to this policy. We at Duplin County Animal Service realize that the animals desperately need every one of us to do whatever we can to help save them. This page is for the animals at DCAS and we want to believe every comment is meant to aid in the helping of this cause and not to undermine, demean, cause issues or attack any individual or our shelter as a whole. We invite any and all to our page to help the animals whether its cross-posting pictures, sending us donations of items greatly needed or even just to share the happiness of a rescued animal. We will NOT tolerate any type of hate towards anyone including our shelter or staff. We do share all the frustration regarding loss of life in any capacity. We know its hard to see the ones that do not make it and its harder still for those of us who get to know the animals personally. Opinions about loss of a life are valued if portrayed in a constructive, respectful and intelligent way. Those people making comments for shock value or for what we feel is creating problems will be permanently banned from our page. We don't feel that we all have to be best friends or even like each other, but we do need to be respectful of each other while posting on this page.
