BIG milestone moment over here at The Speech Shed 🎉

This girl officially met one of her articulation goals and I could not be more proud. She has worked SO hard to get here, showing up each session ready to give it her all...all while keeping me laughing the entire session!

There is truly never a dull moment with her. She’s hilarious, spunky, and brings the best energy into every session. And let’s be honest… if there were an award for best dressed, she’d be taking that home too 👏✨

Watching her growth has been such a joy, and being part of her journey is something I don’t take lightly.

One of the most common questions we hear is, “How many words should my child be saying?”

Here are some general expressive language milestones:
• Around 1 year: 1 to 3 words
• Around 2 years: 50 words and starting to combine two words
• Around 3 years: 200 to 1,000 words with short sentences

If your child isn’t quite there, don’t panic-but trust your gut. Early support makes a big difference. 🫶

What is myofunctional therapy? 👅 Myofunctional therapy is therapy used to correct the improper function of the tongue and facial muscles. It involves strengthening the tongue and orofacial muscles by teaching patients how to engage the muscles to the appropriate position. 🙌

Myofunctional therapy can be especially beneficial before and after tongue tie releases, for children with airway concerns, or for those undergoing orthodontic treatment. Early intervention is key! 😊

We’re so excited to announce our April Autism Support Group for Caregivers at The Speech Shed 🤍

⏰ 10:00 AM
📍 The Speech Shed in Kenedy, Texas

This group is completely FREE and intentionally kept small to create a supportive, comfortable space — so it’s limited to the first 7 caregivers who register.

This month, we’re honored to have Stephanie Goodman, a dedicated pediatric Occupational Therapist with 9 years of experience, leading our group. She currently serves families in Karnes County through Region 3 ECI and has such a heart for helping caregivers better understand their child’s sensory and developmental needs.
I’ve personally seen the incredible work she does, and I’m so excited to learn right alongside you all.

✨ Volunteer Spotlight ✨

We are so excited to spotlight one of our amazing volunteers, Haley De La Garza!

Haley is a junior at Kenedy ISD and generously gives her time to support The Speech Shed behind the scenes. She helps laminate, cut, and prep materials that are used with our speech therapy clients.

Haley has been incredibly hands-on, dependable, and steady in everything she does. She’s even spent part of her Christmas break and spring break volunteering her time, which speaks so much to her heart and character. We absolutely love having her in house! Her smile lights up the room and her positivity is contagious. (And we especially love getting to hear her sing! 🎶)

Some lil' fun facts about Haley:
• Student Council Vice President
• NHS Reporter
• Newly selected Varsity Cheerleader 📣
• A member of One Act Play

Her One Act Play team recently advanced to bi-district (way to go!! 👏), and they’ll be having a public performance at Kenedy High School on April 16th! Go out and support her if you can!

Haley, thank you for being such a light and for giving your time so generously to serve our families. We (the clients, families, and myself) are so grateful for Y O U! 💛
