The heart of NJ4S Union Hub is the people behind the mission.

We foster a team culture rooted in confidence, joy, and mutual support—because when our staff feel empowered, the work we do for youth and families is stronger, more intentional, and more impactful.

Growth starts from within.

During the EMBRACE Retreat, NJ4S Union Hub team members came together to reflect, share insights, and strengthen how we show up for youth across New Jersey. These moments of intention and collaboration help ensure our work stays grounded, responsive, and community-centered.

Dr. King believed that education was a pathway to freedom and that young people deserved the opportunity to thrive in environments that nurture their full potential.

On this MLK Jr. Day, we reflect on what that means for students across Union County. Access to mental health education, prevention services, and supportive school communities is not optional. It is essential. When students are given the tools to understand their emotions, manage stress, and ask for help without fear or stigma, we are actively preventing crisis and saving lives.

NJ4S Union is grounded in the belief that prevention starts early and works best when schools, families, and communities move together. Honoring Dr. King means advocating for systems that prioritize student wellbeing, equity, and connection, not just academic outcomes.

We remain committed to creating spaces where every student feels seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.

We were grateful to come together this month for our NJ4S Union Hub Holiday Party and Division Day, a meaningful opportunity to pause, connect, and reflect as a team.

Moments like these remind us how important it is to create space for togetherness. Gathering as colleagues strengthens our sense of unity, reinforces our shared purpose, and allows us to recognize the collective impact of the work we do every day in prevention and youth support.

And, of course, the potluck did not disappoint. A true reflection of the care, creativity, and community spirit that defines this team.

Thankful for a workplace that values connection, collaboration, and the people behind the mission. We’re heading into the year ahead feeling recharged, grounded, and ready to continue this work together.

In our last post, we shared how conversations like Dry January can open the door to talking about alcohol use in school communities.

As the new year begins, many students are also navigating new routines, expectations, and social pressure. For some teens, this includes pressure around alcohol use tied to weekends, parties, or peer acceptance. During adolescence, alcohol can interfere with decision-making, emotional regulation, and school engagement.

At NJ4S Union Hub, prevention means helping students, families, and schools build skills and support systems before challenges escalate. January is a powerful time to check in, continue the conversation, and strengthen healthy choices that support student wellbeing throughout the year.

As “Dry January” conversations circulate, it’s also an important time to talk about alcohol use among teens and how it can affect students in school.

Alcohol is the most commonly used substance among youth, and its effects can be felt in classrooms through reduced attention, impaired memory, and increased risk-taking. During adolescence, alcohol use can interfere with learning and healthy brain development, making prevention and early intervention especially important.

NJ4S Union Hub partners with schools, families, and community organizations in County of Union, New Jersey to support student wellbeing and address substance use concerns before they escalate.

If your school or family needs support, NJ4S Union Hub can help connect you to resources.
