We are thrilled to welcome Nolan Hoppe-Leonard, LMT to Blossom Pilates & Physical Therapy!

Nolan is a Pilates based movement instructor and a massage therapist. Having an extensive background as a modern dancer, he initially came to Pilates with dance injuries. After seeing the profound effect the work had on his body, he was inspired to do his BASI Pilates Teacher Training, and has been teaching since 2015! He loves to work with people experiencing new or chronic pain / loss of function to help them find ways to regain as much pain free movement as possible. Over the years, he has specialized in serving older adult populations as well as clients with neurological conditions, but he loves working with all types of people and anyone who is curious about figuring out how their body likes to move!

In 2019, Nolan was feeling a deep desire to broaden his skillset and the tools he could offer to his clients. That desire led him to attend Whatcom Community College’s massage therapy program, and he has been happily adding massage therapy to his offerings since 2020! He has specialized in myofascial work, neuromuscular techniques and treatment massage so he can best assist his clients, no matter what their needs are!

Through dance, Pilates and massage, Nolan has a considerable movement background that he draws from to help clients find more comfort in their own bodies. He strives to meet every client where they are at, to develop a plan together to work towards reduced pain and improved function, and to help people find an ease in movement as well as life!

UUI, or urge urinary incontinence, is no fun.

I usually hear something like this: “I’m totally fine and then as soon as I get to the porch and put the key in the door, that is when I have a strong urge and cannot control my bladder”.

Thankfully, there are many lifestyle changes that you can make to improve your situation!

I spent this past weekend taking an introductory dry needling class through Intricate Art Spine and Body Solutions. I have had everything from my jaw to the bottom of my feet needled over the last 3 days! I’m so excited to be bringing this therapy in to the clinic once I finish my Advanced Certification in May. I have quite a few more classes left, and I will even be needling the pelvic floor! (Believe it or not, the pelvic floor is one of the most comfortable places to have needled).

What is Dry Needling? Dry Needling is a western approach to using thin acupuncture needles. We target unhealthy and painful tissues such as muscles, ligaments, and even the periosteum covering the bone so these tissues can heal. We also target the nervous system. The goal of treatment is to increase the parasympathetic nervous system, decrease the sympathetic overdrive, and decrease inflammation and pain in tissues. What makes my certification different from many other Dry Needling certifications is that first and foremost, we treat the nervous system so the body can naturally heal in the way that the body already knows how.

I look forward to bringing Dry Needling to my clients in May!

New Year’s Goals—Be Selfish!

This year, let's be a little selfish—for all the right reasons! Whether your New Year’s goals are to be able to chase after your grandkids, get off and on the floor with ease, run your fastest marathon (or maybe your first marathon), or to finally get rid of your knee pain so you can enjoy those hikes with your friends and family, it all starts with one thing: actually taking time to take care of yourself. You need to take care of yourself because no one else will. By taking care of yourself, you are taking care of others, too, because you will be putting your best self forward. Taking time for yourself does not have to be a long and arduous process. Just 10 minutes of targeted exercise, or a meditation, or even a mindful cup of coffee can be what you need to recharge your batteries and set you on the course of healing and happiness.

Better yet, join us at Blossom Pilates & Physical Therapy for a Pilates class and have something to look forward to each week!

See you in the studio! 🌸

Healing and reducing pain is an up and down, bumpy, topsy-turvy type of journey, with times where one feels great success and other times where one may feel defeated.

Pain is both an emotional and physical experience and it does not always correlate with actual injury or tissue damage.
