United Cerebral Palsy of Greater New Orleans

United Cerebral Palsy of Greater New Orleans UCP of Greater New Orleans has a rich history of serving this community.

Men and women dedicated to ensuring people with all disabilities lead full and meaningful lives through education, employment, advocacy and social interaction in the communities of Southeastern Louisiana. In 1946, a group of concerned parents of children with cerebral palsy in the Greater New Orleans Area united in an effort to secure adequate services of non-prohibitive cost for their children. This group incorporated in 1950 as United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater New Orleans and became the 13th affiliate of United Cerebral Palsy Association.

The love parents have for their kids with disabilities is a fierce one.

It rages under the threat of exclusion.
It swells with each small victory.
It despairs under the weight of fear.
It grows with each passing day.
It moves steps ahead so they don’t get left behind.
It pushes against injustice.
It roars of their worth.

We tire, tire of advocating, tire of doctor and therapy appointments, tire of planning for their future even though the future is still so far.

&- our love does not.

It is always beating, it is always planning, it is always acting.

This is a reflection of what the Divine has given us through this unexpected life and how we have changed through these children we get to cherish.

Our children with a disabilities have grown our hearts and the capacity to love and to love well.

&- we are undone.
&- we are remade.
&- we are grateful for this fierce kind of love.
