Autistic children are valued members of our communities, deserving of support driven by high-quality research. Though preliminary studies have suggested the potential benefit of leucovorin for some autistic children, the evidence base remains too limited to support a wider recommendation. Questions on its benefits, dosing, appropriate monitoring and potential long-term impacts remain unanswered. Larger trials are needed to determine whether leucovorin is a safe and effective option for the autistic pediatric population.

AAP will update its guidance as evidence is compiled and encourages pediatricians to engage in shared decision-making with families asking about leucovorin while providing clear information about the evidence available and the potential risks. Learn more at the link below.

You’re child is in an explosive meltdown. 😫

Once you’ve calmed yourself and feeling more grounded (see previous post), your child needs to know they’re not alone with their big feelings.

That doesn’t mean agreeing with the behavior — it means letting them feel your calm presence. It means letting them know that even these feelings are valid and welcome.

Eye contact. Gentle words. Sitting nearby.

This connection says: “I’m here. I see you. You’re safe.” And safety is what turns their brain back on for cooperation.

When you’re calm and your child feels connected, something shifts — now they can actually hear you. This is co-regulation, and it is necessary before you can get into guidance, problem-solving, and setting boundaries.

Most people who get the MMR vaccine have no or only mild side effects. Measles, on the other hand, can lead to hospitalization, lung infection, brain swelling, and death.

Vaccination prevents measles.

Babies’ bodies respond well to vaccines because their immune systems are in constant learning mode. A baby’s immune system is ready for the hepatitis B vaccine as soon as they are born, and giving newborns the first dose of the vaccine within 24 hours of birth (with additional doses at 1-2 months and 6-18 months) remains the best protection against serious health problems like liver disease and cancer.
