Celebrating 2 amazing years with our Lead OT, Colleen!

Colleen brings so much more than clinical skill to our team. Her gentle nature and thoughtfulness allow even our most sensitive patients and families to feel safe, supported, and understood. She has grown tremendously over the past two years, continually expanding her skills and confidently stepping into new areas of practice.

Beyond her work with families, Colleen is an incredible team player, supporting onboarding, mentoring Level II students, and always stepping in wherever she’s needed without hesitation.

When supporting nonspeakers or minimally speaking autistic children, I always assume that the body is the barrier, meaning motor challenges are likely a huge factor contributing to their lack of speech.

One of Coleen’s little ones recently “graduated” from Early Intervention, and it is always such a special milestone to celebrate. 🎉
In our EI program, our therapists use the Family Guided Routines Based Intervention (FGRBI) coaching model. This approach focuses on empowering caregivers with strategies that fit naturally into everyday routines so progress continues long after the session ends.

By partnering with families, problem solving together, and building confidence in daily moments like playtime, meals, and getting ready for the day, therapy becomes something that happens within family life, not just during visits.

🌊 Surfing the Waves in OT!

Using Tracey DeMaria’s, How to Surf the Waves, kids learn that their bodies and emotions move like waves—sometimes calm, sometimes big. Today we used shaving cream waves to make it hands-on: feeling the wave, noticing energy, and exploring ways to ride it.

Messy, playful, and powerful—learning that sticks! 🤍
