Some people want gifts under the tree this Christmas, but some of us want something you can’t wrap. We just want a moment of peace, a little grace, and space to feel what our hearts are carrying. The holidays don’t erase our love or the ache that comes with missing someone — if anything, they bring it closer to the surface.

If this season feels heavier than it used to, you’re not broken and you’re not falling behind. Grief doesn’t take a holiday. You’re allowed to have days when the memories are warm and days when they knock the breath out of you. Both are part of love.

So if your Christmas list looks a little different this year, I hope you know your heart is allowed to need comfort instead of celebration. It’s allowed to honor who you miss. And it’s allowed to hold grief and love at the very same time.

Realizing that the holidays are hard for many people... We are 5 days away from our Service of Remembrance on December 15th. This is open to anyone who has experienced loss in recent months or years, not just families who have been served by the funeral home. When we are missing someone, it is good to pause - with live music, candle light, readings, and more - and as a community, that is what we will do. Hope you'll join us.

It doesn't matter where the service is taking place, we have the capability to stream it. He attended Penn State University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and earned his degree in Political Science in 1977. He continued his postgraduate studies at Indiana State University which led to an internship in Washington D.C. for Senator Richard Lugar and employment at the Library of Congress and the US House of Representatives. Our condolences to the family and friends of A. Duer Pierce Jr. Details of his service on January 15th are in the full obituary.

"Bud was a dedicated Penn State Alumna, graduating in 1950 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. It was there that he met his first wife, Norma Louise Fetty. He was a member of Penn State’s Soccer & Lacrosse Teams where he lettered in Lacrosse his senior year. With his love for Penn State Lacrosse, he established a lacrosse scholarship."

"Faith, family, friends and a lifetime commitment of hard work while serving his community were at the center of Bud’s life. He was a long-time member of the Kennett Square Lions Club, and served on numerous boards, including the Kennett High School Board. A highlight of his life was running with the Olympic Torch after being nominated as a "community hero” by the United Way of Chester County."
