Today, we pause to honor the memory of Fire Chief Lawrence E. Greeley of the Longwood Fire Company who lost his life in the Line of Duty on this date in 1988.

While fighting a fire in the tunnels on the Longwood Gardens property, Chief Greeley began to suffer chest pains and fell ill. He was subsequently hospitalized and died shortly after the incident while still in the emergency room.

Leaders like Chief Greeley helped to build the foundation of our local fire and EMS agencies in this County. We will continue to pay our respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their communities.
