This is a two-day, in-depth course that tackles the TMJ through the lens of a radiologist and aims to help dentists develop their diagnostic skills when it comes to TMJ pathology. The course starts with the normal anatomy and embryology of the TMJs as a foundation for the diagnosis of abnormalities. The radiographic appearance on CBCT and MRI will be discussed as well as the diagnosis of the different types of internal derangements and arthritides. The second day will contain less common but equally important pathology that can be encountered in the dental clinic such as the congenital and developmental abnormalities, trauma and ankylosis and neoplasia. The temporal bone is the second half of the TMJ and its anatomic relationship creates situations of abnormality mimicking TMD. Its anatomy and some pathology will be reviewed. The course will end with formation of differential diagnosis for common clinical signs of TMJ disorders, such as limited oral opening, joint sounds and bite changes. If you are a TMJ enthusiast, this course is for you!
