Irene Mary Schimek, 85, of Kenosha, WI passed away peacefully with her family at her side, on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital.

She was born on July 9, 1940, in La Crosse, WI, the daughter of the late John M. and Helen E. (Morman) Miller. On April 23, 1960, Irene married Darrell J. Schimek at St. Peter Catholic Church in Hokah, MN. They were blessed with five children and twelve grandchildren. Darrell preceded her in passing last month. They would have celebrated 66 years of marriage this April, a testament to the enduring love they shared throughout their lives.

Irene was employed by American Motor Corp. for many years before her retirement, where she worked on the assembly line and in maintenance.

Irene was a parishioner of St. Peter Catholic Church, Kenosha, WI, where she was a member of the parish Women’s League. She also volunteered her time at the Shalom Center and at St. James Church, helping with various parish duties as well as the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner.

Irene was an avid card player, she also enjoyed making greeting cards, baking (especially pies), arranging flowers, doing crafts and coloring with her grandkids. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was a great cook, who could whip up a meal in no time. Mom loved the Cubs and playing baseball. Growing up, she wouldn’t miss listening to a Cubs game on the radio. Her warmth and generous heart touched the lives of all who knew her. Known to all as “The Best Mom”. Her compassion reached far beyond family to others who needed a touch of kindness. We always knew how special we were with her love.

Survivors include her children, Shirley (Chris) Lang, Lois (John) Seiber, Carolyn (Todd) Taylor, and Darrell Schimek Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Schimek; one sister, Carolyn Wi******er; sisters-in-law, Glenda Miller and Barb Miller; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by a son, John Schimek; brothers, Alfred, Jack, and James Miller; a sister, Donna (Ernie) Sloan; and a brother-in-law, Will Wi******er.

Thank you Auntie Carolyn, for being a constant and loving presence in her life. The bond between you and mom was truly special. Carolyn was not only a sister, but Irene’s dearest friend.
