Our community’s safety net is only as strong as the funding and the people who fight to protect it.

This week was a wake-up call. Federal funding for mental health and addiction services was abruptly cut, then, after widespread outcry, restored. While we’re relieved by the reversal, it highlighted just how fragile the systems are that people in crisis rely on every single day.

At Hope Council, we are cautiously optimistic and deeply grateful that these funds have been reinstated. We remain hopeful that essential services will continue to be in place for our community; because access to treatment, recovery support, and prevention should never be uncertain.

Stable funding and strong advocacy save lives. We will keep standing with our partners, our clients, and our community to make sure no one falls through the cracks. 💙

For 24 hours, it was unclear which mental health and addiction programs would survive and who would still have jobs when the dust settled.

Today is a hard day for the mental health and treatment & recovery communities.

News broke that nearly $2 billion in federal SAMHSA funding for mental health and substance use services has been unexpectedly eliminated. These are the dollars that support crisis response, treatment access, prevention programs, peer support, and life-saving overdose prevention across the country.

For communities like ours in Kenosha, this funding isn’t abstract, it touches real people:
• Families trying to keep a loved one alive
• Young people needing prevention and early support
• Individuals working to stay in recovery
• Frontline workers meeting people where they are

Cuts of this size ripple far beyond Washington. They reach into shelters, clinics, recovery groups, schools, and community organizations that hold people up when everything else is falling apart.

At the Hope Council, we want you to know this:
✔️Our doors are still open.
✔️Our mission has not changed.
✔️Our commitment to this community is unwavering.

We WILL continue to provide prevention, intervention, risk reduction, navigation, and recovery-support services, even as the landscape becomes more uncertain.

We WILL adapt, advocate, and keep showing up, just as we have for more than 55 years.

If you or someone you love is struggling, you are not alone.
If you’re worried about what these cuts mean, we are worried too, and we are standing with you.

This is a moment for community, not silence.
This is a moment to protect hope, not surrender it. 💜

The Trump administration sent hundreds of letters Tuesday terminating federal grants supporting mental health and drug addiction services. The cuts could total as much as $2 billion.
