How to tell if your baby has reflux (and how to help them!) ⬇️

Reflux is a common problem we see in infants at Absolute Chiropractic in Kenosha, WI.

Here are a few signs to look out for:
✅ Back arching
✅ Coughing
✅ Gagging
✅ Poor eating
✅ Irritability after eating
✅ Weight issues
✅ Frequent vomiting
✅ Facial redness

If you believe your infant struggles with reflux, it’s important to see an IBCLC (we actually have one right in our office 💛) to check the child’s latch and feeding. Poor latch and feeding can result in swallowed air, which causes increased gas and reflux.

If you suspect reflux, here are some things you can try at home:
1. Increase tummy time (head control is essential for optimal feeding).
2. Burp them more regularly (during and after feedings).
3. Keep them upright for a few minutes after they eat.

And our FAVORITE before resorting to medication like a proton pump inhibitor, consider gentle (and highly specialized) pediatric chiropractic care.

We have helped many infants with reflux symptoms over the last 13 years by correcting spinal or cranial misalignments that interfere with vagus nerve function, which regulates digestive processes like esophageal sphincter tone and gastric motility.
Gentle adjustments (like testing the ripeness of an avocado 🥑) restore nervous system communication and vagal signaling, improving digestion and reducing reflux symptoms.

Parents at our clinic report major improvements in their infant’s reflux under regular care. 🙌🏼

Hi, I’m Dr. Jacqueline Lord! My journey into chiropractic care began in high school when I was being recruited to play collegiate volleyball. During that time, I experienced a back injury that affected my ability to perform at my best. I came to Absolute Chiropractic + Wellness as a patient, and within just a week or two, I was back to playing at a high level and ultimately earned a collegiate volleyball scholarship. That experience changed my life and opened my eyes to the incredible power of chiropractic care.

Originally, I planned to pursue a career as an athletic trainer. However, after shadowing in that field, I realized I wanted to take a more hands-on approach—something that would allow me to help people heal & feel their best every day. After experiencing the life-changing benefits of chiropractic care myself, I knew I had found my true calling.

I earned my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the National University of Health Sciences in August 2025 and completed my undergraduate studies in Exercise Science at Trinity International University.

As a proud fourth-generation Kenosha resident, I’m deeply rooted in this community. I attended Kenosha Christian Life School and played club volleyball for Wisconsin Juniors and Epic Volleyball Club. My dad is a retired Kenosha police officer, and my mom is a dental hygienist. I grew up surrounded by family—my grandparents even lived across the street and next door! Family means everything to me. My husband is a firefighter paramedic, and together we have a son who’s almost two and a daughter born in July. We feel so blessed to raise our children in a community that feels like home.

I’m beyond excited to join the team at ACW! I love the family-centered, holistic approach to care and have a special passion for prenatal and pediatric chiropractic. During chiropractic school, I went through two pregnancies of my own and saw firsthand how beneficial chiropractic care can be for moms, babies, and entire families.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family (often at local parks), cooking, reading, working out, & playing board games. A fun fact about me—I’m a twin!

Meltdowns happen. Fill in the blank.
Before I became a parent, I didn't realize it was possible to ruin someone's life by ________.

𝗠𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘀 - 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 🤓
Through neurological testing and research, we've learned that many children are stuck in what is called Sympathetic Dominance. This “gas pedal” is essentially the Fight/Flight response. However, when we are exposed to the Fight/Flight response so frequently at such a young age, the nervous system and brain become hard wired for that stress response, making it more difficult to overcome these daily stressors.

𝗜𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲:
Through nervous system scans, we can identify if (and where) a body is under stress. Through gentle, safe, and all-natural chiropractic adjustments, we can help the brain and body communicate in a more calm and organized way.
