🕰️ Way Back Wednesday!
With Thanksgiving tomorrow, we thought it was the perfect time to share this gem from the early 1900s: Mother Gray’s Sweet Powders, a vintage remedy for “occasional constipation of children and adults.”

Because let’s be honest… between the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and that second slice of pie, some long-ago families might’ve been reaching for this very box after their holiday feast. 😅🦃

Just look at these ingredients:
• Calomel: a mercury compound (yikes!)
• Mandrake: the stuff of herbal folklore
• Licorice, Slippery Elm, Sulphur, Bicarb, Anise & Sugar

It’s wild to imagine this sitting on a drugstore shelf as a totally normal household remedy. But hey, people were doing their best with what medicine knew at the time!

Thankfully, we’ve come a long way since mercury-based laxatives.
Today? You can enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner without needing a potion from 1905 to recover. 😉

For Erin and her family, adoption isn’t just something to support in spirit — it’s woven into their story.
These photos are from their own adoption day in 2015, the day two incredible kids officially and forever became part of their family.

It was a day filled with nerves, joy, celebration, and the kind of love that fills a whole room.
A day where “family” expanded in the most beautiful way.
A day we will never forget.

🕰️ Way Back Wednesday!
Today’s blast from the pharmacy past: the Waite & Bartlett Mfg Co.’s Family Faradic Battery ⚡️

Yes… this wooden box with wires, coils, and sponge-tipped handles is exactly what it looks like — an early 1900s “medical device” designed to deliver therapeutic electrical currents for everything from fatigue to “nervous conditions.”

(Imagine pitching that at the pharmacy counter today. 😅)

A few gems from the original instructions inside the lid:
• “Listen for a slight buzzing to know it’s working.”
• “Pour 1 part commercial sulphuric acid into water…”
• “Keep the zinc rod in Tube D when not in use.”

We’ll just say… modern medicine has come a long way, and we’re grateful for it.
But pieces like this remind us how far community pharmacies have been helping families — quirks and all — for generations.
