Sciatica is pain, numbness, or tingling caused by irritation, inflammation, or compression of the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down each leg. It is a symptom of an underlying issue—most commonly a herniated disc or spinal stenosis—rather than a disease itself.

Treatment: Most cases improve with conservative care, including exercise, physical therapy, and pain relief medication.
